Found this:

As you already know, the alternator is a device that produces an alternating current (AC), which is then converted into a direct current (DC) by the rectifier. The voltage regulator helps to control the amount of voltage produced by the alternator, and it also keeps the electrical system from being overloaded.

The W terminal is one of the many important alternator terminals. It sends a signal to the tachometer, which measures the engine’s speed in revolutions per minute (RPM). The D+ is the Charge Warning Lamp marine battery terminal. It is connected to a warning light that turns on when the battery isn’t charging. The DFM terminal regulates the alternator’s output by being connected to a field coil.

Hi guys. I run an old AAZ in my T3, and just got myself a TDi alernator bracket.
I have also got a 120 Amp alternator. But this alternator has a strange plug marked with L and DFM. L is the blue wire to the dash, but what do I do with the DFM? This wire is suppose to go to the ECU, but the AAZ engin don't have a ECU.
