As the title suggests when van engine is turned off the oil pump stays on circulating and whirring. I have a jx engine 1.6td engine. For the moment I've unplugged the electrical clip to stop it and when I want to use van replug it again!
Please can anyone suggest what this might be and a method to rectify it?!
All help gratefully recieved! :-)

like jason said the oil pump is driven when the engine is running so it must be the additional water pump you can hear its the one connected to the oil cooler ring

Thanks guys yes you must be right. I'm guessing it's ok to do what I'm doing at moment- switching it off then reconnecting it when I'm using it? That's until I get it fixed?

^^^WHS^^^
Can't remember which temp switch it is though, but if you unplug each in turn you should hopefully find the duff one.

Alright Stu!

Here's where the sender is located on the Chappy Wagon.  See where it says 'glowplug'?  Just to the left of that, there's a yellow wire going to the aux pump sender.  It's actually a thermo switch - it's supposed to come 'on' at 104 or 114 deg c (can't remember which) to activate the pump.

The purpose of the pump is to continue to circulate coolant after shutdown if the engine is very hot - to avoid hotspots developing due to heatsoak.

Mines never run - but that may be more to do with my wiring skills that owt else Wink

Has yours been running hot at all?
