Hi all. I thought I'd post up about my SA T3 van I'm restoring. I've actually had it for nearly a year. But in that time it's had to have first an engine rebuild after it blew a head gasket on the journey back from picking it up, which then turn out to be a broken piston. Finding parts wasn't fun, as I'm sure quite a few of you can appreciate. After sourcing all the parts it then turned out that the engine block wasn't a factory 2.5 AAY but in fact a bored out 7A engine! So I then had to track down an original block and head. Since then it's been a journey tackling what turned out to be quite a few bits of rot. Mainly the suspension arm mounting points, cross member, both B pillar bottoms, below the front grill, both inside and outside the sliding door, foot well in the cab, the bottom inside and outside edge of the rear hatch, a couple of sections behind the front seats and finally the corner of the gutter on the drivers side. I've certainly brushed up on my welding skills that's for sure. But I've kept with it and it's booked in for a full respray next month and after that I'm working on the interior, finally!
There have been times when I've nearly given up, but not yet. At the moment the K Jetronic system seems to be playing up (possible Warm up regulator rebuild needed) but I'm learning a lot about diagnosing and fixing that. But when I have been able to drive the van I've loved it, and hopefully all the hard work will be worth it.

I was hoping to upload a few images but I can't seem to do that yet. However, its a light blue SA T3, 2.5 engine, registration H526 DWS. Anyone know anything about it?

Mark

It might be worth also asking on the 8090 forum - there are a couple of current and past SA T3 owners over there.
