Hello all,
I have a van here that's been mothballed for a few years and a good JX 1.6 TD engine to go in it. Problem is there's one thing missing-the original turbo. Should be a KKK part number 068 145 701 QX if anyone has one. I do have a Garrett turbo from a 1990 Audi 80 1.6TD. Will this fit and if so how would I need to modify it? I have the JX manifolds and also the Audi ones. ![]() All the best, Mike.

Does the Audi turbo have the same 4 bolt fitting pattern as the JX exhaust or does the turbo have a 3 bolt pattern?

Just check the position of the oil feed/return. Reindex if necessary and away you go.

Thanks for the info.
By re-index do you mean dismantle the turbo and reset it so it's level say with the floor and not likely to feed the engine its own oil? Also when it was fitted to the Audi engine there was a water pipe that connected to the engine block to a nozzle in one of the 3 "caps"and another oil pipe. What do I do with these? All the best, Mike.

You dont need to attach the water pipes. just leave them off.
Reindex the turbo so that the oil return is at the bottom of the turbo. You can check this by putting the turbo on to the exhaust manifold which I guess is still fitted to the engine.

OK thanks again.
I'll have a look and make sure it all lines up. I suppose a JX oil feed pipe will go straight to it? And would the turbo not catch fire without water? Mike.

No turbo won't catch on fire. It will b fine without water. You can plumb into water if you want 2 and have the fittings for the turbo.

One more thing.
The Audi 80 setup had an oil feed pipe and another running alongside it that was disconnected. What is this for? Something to do with the intercooler maybe? And do I block it off when using on the JX? Flying blind at the mo with limited know-how and awaiting a "Bentley" manual. Thanks again, Mike.

If its a water cooled turbo it will be worth while taking the pump and injectors off the Audi engine as its the 80bhp unit - if you still have access to it.

Yes I have both the JX which is almost ready to drop in, and when this one dies I have the old Audi lump to fall back on.
My original plan was to send the van to a specialist and have them put a recon JX in. Trouble was my van had a CS non-turbo waste of time in it so I thought hmm what do I do now. Dust off the old socket set! Anyway I bought a decent used JX but a few bits lets say had been used to do an AAZ conversion. And these bits took a bit of tracking down(eBay Germany etc). And they started adding up(lots of £20s £30s and £40s. So when I saw the Audi engine I thought hmm might as well buy this even if I use a few bits and keep it as a spare. Must say though glad it happened like this as it's proving to be quite enjoyable especially as it's all coming together. Van is a 1987 Syncro crewcab by the way, Mike. |

I am too curious about this. Will my JX oil feed connect straight to an Audi 80 turbo? Or will I need to manufacture my own oil feed and drain pipes? Is this turbo conversion swap worth doing as the turbo needs replacing anyway? Regards, James

Since we are on the topic of turbos...
I have a stock JX in a T3/T3 with a K14 turbo. Is there an adapter available that would allow me to mount a VW VNT15 on the JX manifold? It would adapt the four bolt trapezoidal pattern to the triangular three bolt pattern.

Just to close this thread... I was able to find an adapter that would fit a T15 turbo or VNT to a JX manifold with the trapezoidal mount. Tim Shettle was able to provide me with the adapters. They worked without issue, quality kit!
