Just bought a 2006 T5s engine with 40k on the clock and its fine except that theres a loud humming noise from the engine a couple of minutes after switching the ignition off. Its definately not the fan, and isn't likely to be the turbo. Do they all do this?

Well mine does it, it's always done it, not sure what it is though. Not minutes though just maybe 20 seconds.

Its a standard T28 SWB 85 bhp , the absolute basic one, no electrics or air con. Compared to my transit and hiace which are pretty simple and have done 150k each without so much as a new clutch between them  the VW is starting to look a bit fragile. Turbo whistling under load as well. Too late now though, so lets see what the dealer can do ....

Cheers

It could be the electric fuel pump. I don't hear it very loudly after turning of my T5 but it is there if you listen hard enough. It is very loud though in my golf.

It usually runs for around 30 seconds after switching off the ignition, more so if you just turn the ignition on then straight off again.

Smile OK it took a couple of months, but the buzzing/humming after the engine has been turned off has ben cured by installing a new turbo boost valve.

Common one that, we get folks saying it sounds like a "mooing noise" when the engine is stopped.
