My 2.1 engine has done around 40,000km since a rebuild and the oil pressure starts off at normal and drops off significantly after about 4kms. I have fitted a pressure gauge, sandwich plate with temp gauge between the filter and case and new oil pump. The oil pump stretched the distance that could be driven, the engine doesn't develop bearing or tappet noises. As a last resort I have stripped the engine and cannot identify any obvious problem such as excess bearing clearance.
When it was rebuilt the conrod bolts were replaced which was a recommended because they were a stretch bolt (tightened to a torque and then a certain No of degrees).
Wondering of anyone may be able to enlighten me.

OK problem located, the oil pressure gauge is faulty and one of the new pressure switches must also be faulty to alllow the buzzer of doom to co me on intermittently. I now need to locate some new stretch con rod bolts and reassemble.

That’s a good result albeit frustrating. I’ve had similar problems with my Land Rover oil sender unit - faulty from new
