Im sure the designation 'T' is for Transporter isnt it,
so a transporter mk1 is a split etc.... thus T3 |

You mean T25?
Basically T25 is an English nonsense made up to cover up the fact that some people really cannot get their heads around VWs designations. See... back in the day VW had a Beetle... the Type1. Nice, simple, uncomplicated. Then they cocked it all up by making the Type2 (the 1st Transporter - the split as we "lovingly" call it) They also hit us with the Type3 - Fastback, Notch, Square, or even Ghia... all Type3s Still not too complicated. are you keeping up? Then somewhere along the line came the Bay Window. Still a Type 2 (Transporter) but not a Split. So it becomes the T2 (2nd gen Transporter). Split then I guess becomes the T1. Still with me? Good. Now, its 1979, and the third generation transporter appears. The T3. Oh, but wait. The English, being English are a little confused... "Didnt we have the T3 back in the 60s"? Just about everyone else says..."No chaps that was the TYPE3, This is a TYPE2 T3" Blank stares from the English. "Well, the chassis number starts with a 25, so thats what we'll call it" they say So the English are happy, they have a T25 that no-one else knows exists. Nice. Except one day they realise they havnt been quite so clever. Cos, the T3 pickup is actually (by the logic that brought us a T25) actually a Type24. Not so clever now eh? So, fact is that the T25 only exists cos most of the English back then were a bit too dumb to understand the difference between a T3 and a Type3. You can call you T3 a T25 if you like (but not here ] but it will always be a T3. And i will always snigger when I see someone call their Double Cab a "T25 DOKA" And almost wet myself with glee when I see "T25 SIKA" Edited by Tee3 - 26 Jul 09 at 20:11 |

ooh just dicovered another Swear Filter word.
SIKA becomes single cab pickup. And rightly so. Its yet another bit of English idiocy... Cos, as we know, a DOKA is a Double Cabin. From the German DOppel KAbine. Makes sense. Then, the English try to get clever. They invent another VW. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the Single cab pick up. Presumably from the German SIngleKabine? Except, German for Single is (I believe) Einzeln. So you can have a T25 SICA, or you can have a T3 EIKA. you cant mix the two |

When I asked the very same question back in tha days of newbyism, no-one went into this much detail! I was pointed to a thread explaining it all, how the yard has developed into a communication hot bed!!
While I totally agree with all points (I know, not like me but to be honest, this is my only source of info on the point so can't really argue!!) why is it when you walk into most of the none T3 specialist traders at shows and ask for a widget for a T3, they look at you like you are thick and then ask in a sarcy voice "You mean a Twenty 5 (kin swear filter!)"? (Actually had a heated debate with a guy in CoolAir on the very subject at Vanfest a couple of years back!!) Edited by Stu Dapples - 26 Jul 09 at 20:24 |

Spot the odd one out.
T1
T2
T25
T4
T5
Doesn't takle a genius to work that one out.
The SiKa thing makes me laugh too, hence swear filter entry, another bollocks UK offering.

FYI, single cabs are most commonly known in German as 'pritsche' (=pickup).
BTW, why isn't this in the cross-stitch forum?
