I have an 1989 LT28 2.4 diesel and am regularly getting 25 mpg. But I have no idea if this is good or bad (if bad maybe I need to do some work!)
I have a Sven motorhome so fairly well loaded.
What mpg are you getting on this engine/vehicle?

Getting the equivalent of 35+ on LPG but the old bus (2.0) doesn't go up hills very well, reckon 2.4 petrol would be best for economy/performance in that order.

i get roughly 25mpg at best out of my 2.4td (self build converted lwb panel van). my mate gets between 22 and 25 out of his 2.4 petrol.... difference is i rag mine and he drives at about 50 everywhere. so I'd say the 2.4td was the more economical motor, plus it'll do 70mph withought too much effort.

Didn't explain my post very well.
If a 2.4 petrol does say 23 on average, it will probably do the equivalent cost wise of 35 on LPG. Never gonna be as quick as a td (unless you fit a turbo) but would be cheaper to run and go up hills a damn site quicker than mine. |

we've just recorded 507 miles using 75 litres with a full van load ie 3500kg, on the return journey with empty van ie about 1900kg am up to 550 miles for 65 litres. if theres 4.5 litres to a gallon whats that ? 30 & 38 mpg, not bad for a big van

I got approx. 23MPG when we drove to Italy a few weeks back. Mines a 2.4 Petrol Camper and it was loaded up. I stuck around 55/60MPH until I reached Switzerland when climbing the mountains flatout was abouT3mph but what goes up must come down, 65mph coasting.
Not bad considering petrol is generally cheaper.
Anyone got LPG and is it worth converting? Edited by bibblybobs - 09 Jul 09 at 11:21 |

did Dorset and back a couple of weeks ago, 446 mile round trip @ 25.7 mpg, she will run happily at 70 but mostly running at 60/65 mph, takes a while to get there as non turbo, but will happily cruise once she gets there, 1994 LT 35E high top camper conversion so about as aerodynamic as a brick wall I'm happy enough with those figures.
cheers, Jack. Edited by AndyT - 09 Jul 09 at 17:13 |

Just done a brim to brim on my van and its coming out as 23.04 mpg for 227 miles. 2.4 TD thrashed everywhere. Thats quite dissapointing. Its almost as bad as my T3!!

I'd be glad if I got 23 mpg! I don't measure it much, but after a tank of fairly careful driving, rarely over 50mph (admittedly in hilly North Wales) I managed a whopping 21mpg. Mine's a high roof 2.4TD LWB.
