okay, a bit dull this one, but i'm looking to buy a westfalia towbar. On ebay i'm looking at a couple and they are different to each other. One has an extra plate at top centre of the tube which appears to be extra strengthening to stop the neck tearing out?? Any thoughts on this. Is this a better, later version?? Certainly my Atlantic had this version. The other one is just a straight tube. Both look the same apart from that and both are sold as westfalia.Confused 
I need to to mount a late big bumper so inferior box section(non westfalia) versions do not look like they will support the bumper.

Dunno about the different reinforced type (although I have seen this difference, mine is the one with the reinforced bit on the top) but make sure you get either the towbar with the two extension bits on top that support the big bumper, or budget accordingly (ie a standard towbar needs to be the right price) to buy the two add-on brackets to convert a standard towbar to big-bumper type. the brackets are about £30 and are available from Westy towbar dealers. They just srew on to pre-threaded holes in the original towbar.

So I presume that my standard bumper irons are not modified from the early type, and hence already have the conversion bracket on them?  Regarding the extra reinforced plate, i'm wondering if the one on ebay that does not have this is infact a westfalia item, or if there's an inherant weakness  that was rectified on later towbars.

The one in Ruthin looks genuine article, couldn`t finad any others. (two VW T3 dealers in Ruthin so this guy looks like someone selling parts for / from them)

No you will need the conversion brackets,  big bumper bracket are different to standard. I had to get some when  I fitted a towbar.

Those are indeed the brackets available from Westfalia towbar dealers for £30 ish. Is that a Westy towbar James? Only ever seen round-tube types.

I think so,  it's got a VAG plate(painted over) on it next the socket,  and the brackets fitted straight on,  maybe it's a special one!  does the job any how.
