Hi All, not been on for a while due to very slowly working on two LT's but just wanted to pass on this (obvious when you know it!) piece of info relating to Turbo'd LT's.
Have been spending some time repairing LT number two's broken head bolt issue. Removed pump, injectors, manifolds, pulleys, head etc etc time consuming but straightforward enough, then decided to remove and clean/check the turbo (why not while everything else is off eh?) Problems began on reassembly, could i stuff get the turbo back in its allotted gap i wiggled i jiggled turned twisted bashed i grew ever more frustrated! There just wasn't enough room! After breaking off the pressure feed banjo on the turbo, i then resorted to vagcat to see what was wrong, turns out there are two oil feed returns available one for coil sprung as LT number 1 and one for leaf sprung as LT number 2 ! Turns out the replacement engine that was fitted must have been taken from the coil sprung version (has large hex head lump) as opposed to the elbowed leaf sprung version (as found with the remnants of my now spare and awating rebuild original engine) So if you are after a spare engine make sure you have the right pipes it saves a LOT of hassle! Oh and if you are after spare turbo gaskets, rebuild parts, and the stainless manifold to turbo gasket (that's not even shown) i got mine from turbo rebuild uk Hope this helps someone :-) Will try to add pics later to show differences etc Edited by outtatime - 16 May 16 at 22:39 |
