Okay - so here goes. The battery is on the right hand side of the engine bay, not under the seat. The header tank is in front of the battery and has a blue plastic 'dalek' cap on it! No other overflow/burp tank apparent anywhere...I am missing a tank?

ah but... "The plastic replacement cooling hoses we sell are all in good condition with little or no corrosion. They are the same for petrol and diesel engines of all ages. They run from near the engine to the radiator at the front, so are about 4m long. This makes them very hard to photograph but suprisingly easy to ship!" Thats why the insert is hanging out if the end... adjustable length innit |

probably confusing the issue even more by mentioning the battery cos if it was a petrol it will be under the seat
![]() The tank in the engine bay is the header tank. The one with the pressure cap. the one behind the flap is the overflow, or "Burp" tank. What is your cap like on your header tank? Its it plastic? or Metal?

Thanks a lot guys - I'll give Matt a try. Thanks for the link to Baxter's step-by-step - knew I'd seen it somewhere... It's written at just the right level for me! The only fly in the ointment is that the van was originally a 1.9 petrol and some bodget droppped in the diesel later on. There is no header tank in the engine bay - i.e. nothing behind the flap. ??? Just the expansion tank. No wonder I have always been confused about the 'behind the flap' routine.

I love that I do.
Advertising shafted front to rear coolant pipes with the ends all cracked and hanging off. If anyone here wants to give me £32.50 for stuff I chuck away I'll happily accept it!

Hi David - that part is indeed obselete, as I found out last year when I needed one. I'd try Madmatt forst like Jason suggested, he's a proper tidy fella. failing that, they do come up on Ebay from time to time - I paid £25 for mine on there last year.
As for filling up with coolant, do it via the header tank in the engine bay. If you think you need to bleed the system too, then follow the fine set of instructions here: - http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/bleeding-the-cooling-system_topic29710.html |

Hi guys - I'd be grateful for any advice on how to find a replacement coolant pipe for my 1985 1.6d CS. It's sprung a couple of tiny leaks in the 4 way 'octopus' pipe over the top of the block. Looking and asking around I believe the part is no longer available (068-121-101C). Do any of you know of any secret stashes or, failing that, any recommendations for a company that might be able to make one up?
Also, Ta v much - David |
