Anyone have a photo or diagram of the Mk1 LT's transmission layout? All I can find on Google is the Mk2 LT's layout. Got big plans for an LT, a BMW Turbo Diesel engine and automatic gearbox! Edited by Wayne Venomous |

hope this may be of use to you , on another note me van is a 35D has anyone used a V0LV0 straight six turbo D in a conversion. i know its a vw unit, but i have found a 60000 miler auto for next to nothing and thought it would be fun to drop in me van. , i have the complete car. so oil coolers and the like. i have heard that autoboxes cook with weight and that would be a concern.but a volvo is probably quite heavy, just wondered what everyones views are. That's fantastic, cheers! Big, over-engineered "tank-like" cars such as the Volvo usually have a massive transmission fluid oil cooler anyway as they usually weigh at least 2 tonnes. The only cars I've heard with boiling transmission fluid are ones that have inadequate oil coolers for towing (Cavaliers, early Vectras and Astras are notorious apparently) I say go for it! Even if you experience excessively hot transmission fluid, just beef up the ATF cooler (I'm wondering if an auxillary fan might be a good idea here). I know the BMW I'm taking the auto box out of weighs about 2 tonnes and has a massive ATF cooler located next to the radiator. The final drive will be dictated by the LT's rear differential so you don't even have to worry about gearing! The main reason for wanting to go for a BMW 2.5 6-cylinder turbo diesel engine is because my daily driver has one and I've been amazed at how unbreakable the thing is! It's been fried as the original water pump gave up on a central motorway (at 280,000 miles!) where I couldn't stop so I absolutely cooked the cylinder head trying to get somewhere safe to stop. I let it cool down overnight, replaced the water pump (£30 from GSF) and it's still going! Also it has a cam chain as opposed to the cam belt fitted to the LT. |
