Where can i get thermo mats for the rear windows? I can find plenty for the front 3 but none for the rear. It is for a converted van so only require 2 sides and 1 rear.
thanks in advance

Make your own for about a tenner....yes seriously.
A roll of airtec or similar, duck tape and either a pack of poundland window suckers or velcro them onto the frames.

I made my own out of that silver bubble roll stuff. Rather than use suckers though, I bought a role of velcro tape off ebay. Works well.

Like TwoFish, I made my own with blackout blind fabric cut to glass size plus 20mm all round and sewed velcro tape to the edges (well, me Mam did it for me, bless her
An even neater idea (which I will employ when the current blinds wear out) is to sew rare earth magnets into the edges of the blind fabric so that you can stick them onto the metalwork around the glass - not sure how well it would work for you posh folks with plastic-trimmed Caravelles but for kombi/window van models it would be perfect.

The T4 version work fine, in fact I kept my T4 thermo matt (8 pieces) and they all work fine. You may find them on ebay sometime!

My dad swears by French cars but they keep breaking down. Asked what the best cars he ever had were, he replied "The old Passat, the two MK2 Golfs, the Audi Quattro and the Princess"? Kombi 130 SWB

Cracking idea! I have a bunch of that thermo roll left over from my insulation and didn't know what to do with it, and I had a plan to spend £130 or so on a set of blinds for the van. I think some blackout material and either velcro or magnets is a brilliant solution!
I feel a blog entry coming on to remind myself of this! Thanks! Edited by BlackBeltBlakey - 15 Mar 10 at 17:09 |
