Probably due to the engine now drawing in hot air from the engine bay rather than cool, clean air from outside of the van.
Also if the EGR delete has been done as well it sort of defeats the object as the engine's drawing in hot air again?

I'm not a big fan of "open" induction kits purely because of this.

If you can,as you say, isolate the filter from the engine bay then that will be a big plus. The ones Jabba Sport do for G60 and 20V T MK2 Golfs work well so maybe worth doing something similar?

Just done pretty much the same, but temp guage is up a fair bit. Now going to see about isolating induction from engine bay. Engine revs like hell now. Van feels a bit faster too. Am I imagining this or is it poss.? (Oh, put decat pipe on exhaust too.) Should we all look at timing/fuel  now? Anyone know?

Now replace that "convoluted" bit of pipe with some silicone and ally ones, and you'll have the full kit.
Makes a big difference, but silicone pipes ARE expensive.

Thought I'd have a crack at this, 10mins later 'job done'

70mm straight pipe from motor factors £5,
Ebay Universal 75mm outlet £11.50,
2x jubilee clips.

removed airbox and replace with induction kit.
