anyone got the steering Knocking on their nice new shape T5gp? According to VW it's only my one doing it as they cured this on the T5. Can hardly feel it when the weather is really cold, but rest of the time it's there...getting worse. Time for another visit.

Yup!

Mine has done it from day 1.

I spoke to the dealer a few weeks after I picked it up, they hadnt heard of it and I didnt want to be the guinea pig.

Has now done 6500 miles and still the same, coming off a roundabout on full lock every time.

I also get a clonk every speed hump I go over even at slow speed, comes through the floor !, again Im waiting a bit so they can practice on other victims first.

Very annoying indeeed!

The silly thing is, I bought my last T5 when it was just 3 years old and out of warranty, I couldnt wait to get it to the dealer to hand over money to fix annoying faults.

Now the faults will be repaired free of charge I cant be bothered or find the time to visit.

Kev.

I have noticed a slight knock, only on roundabouts though. Something else which a mate has also experienced and is having it looked at, is a slight hesitation when you accelerate after going over a nip in the road. As my mate described it, and I have noticed the same, if you do the same journey regularly, it happens in the same place. You come over a brow of a hill and as you start to descend and accelerate, the van feels restricted briefly. Im not going to do anything about either until it goes in for a service as it's not annoying enough and I don't have time at the moment anyway.

My bet is an overly sensitive traction control system

Im suffering too! Mine seems worse when its first running in in the morning, usually on 3/4 lock with a little bit of acceleration or braking. Generally if the van is balanced nicely its no problem, but otherwise I can guarantee somethings going to happen! First service coming up so will check out what bullshit they are feeding at the mo

Are you referring to "Clonk" or loss of power?

When turing the steering a low speeds there is a vibration and it can be felt though the whole of the van told vw about this and they said it was the power steering pump they have changed this and the problem is still there been to vw again they have now told me they have notified vw uk about the problem and are waiting for a reply i think its something to do with the rack

van has 20k on it

Mine is a 53 plate and does this when reversing and applying full left lock , sometimes it will do it when going over speed bumps , was told it was something to do with the 18 inch wheels ?!? Putting stress on roll bar ? It got a bit better when I put new disc and pads on

Is this when on nearly full lock? is so all of the T5.1 I have drove do this, I think it's down to the lumpy tick over
The new update for the ECU is supposed to make it much smoother

mine has had the software update and now ticks over smoothly, drives so much better with no hesitation and most importantly isn't trying to regen  all the time... as that's what's causing it,,,yes the DPF!

Hi
Got an annoying knock on mine too - 2005 2.5 T28 - in for an MOT tomorrow and I'm hoping they find the problem - even took the undertray off so they can have a good view of everything. Replaced loads of bits recently too!!! MMMMMMM! bloody frustrating!

Let you know if they find anything interesting

Exhaust manifold gasket, easy to check - simply manually close the EGR valve with the engine running and the van will stop, if the gaskets duff or the manifolds cracked you`ll see a puff of smoke

Had a look under bonnet this morning, dont know where to look on the new 2l engine(140),nothing like 1.9/2.5 engine.I had a look around the manifold with a mirror, no soot or black marks to be seen.
