just done both timings belts,so stuck it vagcom to check pump timing and found its on about 40-42.judging by the graph its just on the lower end of the range.now i dont want to alter any pulley,so main question is if i twerk both tensioners does it  make that much difference?how much difference does it make even being a tooth out?

Did you use the tdi graph?
It's only the bottom pulley you adjust for the timing, it's a bit fiddly as you have to insert the allen key, loosen the bolt then turn the allen key while watching the timing graph/number then tighten the bolt, and all with the engine running (and up to operating temperature).
What year and engine code do you have as the timing (commencemnet of injection) specs vary.
