my 1988 T3 1.9DG engine needs changing. It's got low compession and a worn valve guide in the No 2 cylinder head which is leaking oil.
I could do with some advice r.e.
should I put a 1.9 engine back in or upgrade to a 2.1
if I put a 2.1 what engine code do I chose
which engines are recommended all new, part reconditioned or second hand
what other parts should I change in the process radiator? radiator pipes? clutch?
any thing crucial to a t3 engine change I've never changed a T3 engine but have done a 1972 bay and several beetles successfully i'm also doing it in a well equipped workshop - no lifts but a very large jack and heavy duty stands
i'd appreciate any advice
thanks

2.1 if you can get a good one of course, DJ is best MV almost as good, you can run both on a pierburg 2e3 carb, justs bolts in, better to change the main jet on 2e3 to a 1.2mm or drill it out, seen a dyno recently that showed improvement in power with the bigger jet on a 2.1.
Nothing wrong with a good 1.9 though probably easier to find.
