Well fun day yesterday with recovery truck, landrover and quad bike to get the van back to mine.

Had to knock my back wall down to try and fit the fan on the garden next to my shed, but its a single track lane.  Needed to tow it up with the landy, then got it stuck trying to push it in. (Van wouldn't start). Used quad to drag the front round enough and got it on the garden.

Gave it a sponge bath at the weekend, it looks a bit better

Ordered an ignition switch and a few other bits. Hopefully it will start off the key.

A run over with g3 and a mop and that will "shine like a diamond in a goats ass!"

Does it need much welding?

it looks like surface rust so far, lifted the rubber mats on the steps and found a tennis ball sized hole.

Looked pretty solid underneath when it was on the rec truck. Going to have an hour underneath with a wirebrush at the weekend if its not chucking it down.

Swapped the ignition switch earlier but no joy, still wont start off the key.

I dunno if its got some crappy alarm on it, theres a weird looking thing on the dash (that i should have took a pic of)
Might be to do with that... beer time now

Still no joy with the starting, dash thing is MOSS Security it doesn't light up googling it looks like a alarm movement sensor.

Got bored with it so had a rummage with a wire brush under it.

the old moss alarms are easy to bypass! they'll be a live and an earth to power the alarm couple of wires for sensors and leds then a thicker couple of wires to bypass the ignition switch. rip the lot out and sling it in the bin (or take out frustration with a hammer) any wires left over that match exactly solder back together then fire her up!

Cheers fella,

Had a look and chased some of the wires back, still none the wiser! Couldnt be arsed to get under the van when it was snowing.

Dunno if any of these are part of the problem

Will chase these back and hopefully figure it out

This was behind the fuse box anyone know what its for?

Hard to say, could be a replacement for one that has burnt contacts.

Often people fit a relief relay for the headlamps, but I would expect 2 or a spli charge relay.

You need to get the multimeter out and see when/if it comes on.

There are certainly a few deities in there. I tend to rip them out and start again.

Ripped out this lot

removed all the grounds from the fuse box / alarm wiring harness

now left with a yellow wire that connects on the right

A red one that connects on the left

and a couple of orange (im guessing are for the indicators) and a blue one (goes to the door somewhere)

What im struggling with is what should connect where the red / yellow are currently plugged in. Anyone got a clue?

Sorry total noob when it comes to electricsDead

pull em all out there not standard! one will be indicators to show the alarms armed/disarmed yellows a switched live (like on a stereo) red will be power (theres a few spades live in the fusebox for accessories) and im guessing blue to door would be either switch for voltage drop or you have an aftermarket central locking kit? how many buttons on the alarm fob?

Moved the shed back 4 foot, can now get the van out under its own steam, reversed it up the back lane and drove it back down - it started leaking water near the back wheel header tank was empty so something else wants fixing LOL

Also had my first little crash in it, reversed into my garden fence thinking it could still be level with the shedConfused Fence fell down, Vans like a tank

It's a crusty beast but at least it's keeping you off the streets... Although I guess in this instance that phrase is not that appropriate. LOL

They say Rome wasn't built in a day, but by feck, if had been built like a T3 we'd only know of Rome in history books as it would have dissolved back to dust long ago.

To hell with owning the house, get back on a bike! Get a sidecar for the missus and bairns if needs be.
