After the http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/stuck-in-wildest-northumberland_topic85879.html" rel="nofollow - tribulations of kindasquirrelly  and, happily, the joyous outcome at the hands of http://ajkthompson.co.uk/" rel="nofollow - AJKThompson  of Seahouses, I suggest we compile a list of the helpful folks to help out poorly LTs on their holidays.

As AndyT says, lets start it and see how it goes.Thumbs Up

All you people who have good experiences, and want to save me the searching, please add your garage to the list.

Since not everyone, me, does not have mobile internet, I will be using a paper version called a list.

Edit: not directed specifically at SablePoot.Wink
As much information as possible too please. If the company has a website, no matter how basic, include a link or URL. their map may be more accurate than SatNav or Google.

Edit: There may be a lot of these.

Please PM me the ZeeMap edit link and the name of the marker to which it refers. I am keeping a list of all entries, and this means that details can be changed by me too rather than just the original poster.

Ta muchly boys and girls.Thumbs Up

Excellent idea LTcamper89, especially as we are going on our hols to cornwall soon and you never know... This list may come in handy !!

My recommended VW "guru's" for the Cotswolds / Oxfordshire area are -

Anthony Chester Vehicle repairs
Greatworth
Banbury
Oxon
Tel.07921867621 / 01295712761

Martin Prout
Springfields vehicle maintenance
Tetbury
Glos
Tel. 01666505010

Both are reliable, knowledgeable, and have done plenty of work for us on our VW's....they aren't afraid of an old LT either ;0)

Having checked the map, the marker must be the middle of the postcode area, so you appear to need the junction of Arenig Street and High Street(A494). 52.909235,-3.600603

?Can you find the full address and postcode?

My reasoning for being pedantic is that I would rather have a definitive information set, so there is no searching on a dwindling battery in the dark in the middle of nearly nowhere.Thumbs Up

I am sure you will gain experience as you go.....or not.Wink All my experience is on bikes and sidecars, so hardly transferable skills. LTs are simple, like us, it just looks daunting when we all gather in one place to tell eachother what went wrong today.

A lot of us may be able to do the work at home, but we cannot take 3ton trolley jacks and ramps etc etc with us on our holidays, so knowing where we can get 'those' jobs done by knowledgeable spanner types is certainly worthwhile. It is far preferable than being taken home and losing your days off. Been thereCry

Keep the faith.Thumbs Up

Oh I do agree with you; I am learning the basics slowly.. Mainly through reading what is written on this great forum ;0)
I haven't been scared of tackling interior or bodywork but with the engine I admit I'm a bit wary of making a bodge so rely on mechanics. What i meant was that there are only 3 garages/mechanics on the map so far, which doesn't cover a huge amount of the UK, so though I'd hate to lose days away I'd rather someone I trust at home fix my beloved Ethel than a garage the breakdown company will take me to that will rip me off no doubt

      FOR THE SOUTH OF ENGLAND

After a few years of getting mechanics to work on our 1988 LT55 (2.4TD), without ever finding one who we felt knew the vehicle as well as we would have liked, we have finally found a mechanic who knows every nut and bolt on there ...
He has had a couple of LT's for years as his breakdown recovery vehicles so he really knows them inside out, , and he absolutely loves them....      ... he even entertains us by refering to our LT Motorhome by the name of 'Goldie'  like we do, and he totally understands how precious she is to us...

His garage is on an industrial estate on the edge of

                       POOLE in DORSET

His name is ANDY - mobile  07749 207399...
Address is:    26 Kennington Road, Nuffield Industrial Estate, Poole, BH17 0GF

I am sure he does call outs / recoveries anywhere across the south of the country....

Indeed Colin that info is excactly what people are looking for.
It is just that England is so enormous, you don't happen to know someone a little closer to London?

I'm looking for someone like Andy for the buyer of my red LT, he thinks he migth have a blown gasket but he is definitely not a "knowledgeable spanner type".

yes know exactly what you mean ! OuchOuchJust recently after getting my LT55 front beam axle and engine back, (3rd garage i had tried !) Went to start cleaning off rust off axle for painting and shock horror the job it was put in for (king pins  ) noticed grease nipple and disc missing from one of the pins and not greased so dry so how much water has gone in there over a year ! Really annoying thing is there was a spare king pin set i supplied (not cheap or easy to get !) and did not get this back now i have to get a whole new kit to complete the job myself ! On top of that both splash/back plate's were all bent up plus callipers full of mud.
If that was'nt bad enough i had supplied refurbished back plate to fit on engine before new belt water pump and tensioner fitted not done ! Then i also notice requested  glow plug not fitted (awkward first one behind injector pump ) But after all said i cannot even think about complaining as the mechanic /engineer who took on the job (no one wants to do pins as press required to do job ) Is seriously ill and had given the job to his Apprentice butcher ! Now i have to get on with it myself and hope not to find any more F--- ups .CryAngryCensored

Following on from Colins post for the south i gave Andy at http://www.motcarrepairs.com/ a call to give him his full company name!!

His service and enthusiasm have been fantastic and from the first call to him i knew he was very knowledgable in the ways of LTs! He has had a good go through the engine and sorted out the timing and a few other issues with an MOT on a good fast turnaround. Best of all the van now drives far better with increased power right the way across the board!

Well worth travelling to Poole for a job well done.

Glad he did you a good job Andy.
We now drop in on Andy once a year in June for a service/check-over, and he fixed a few niggly issues for us again this year, and in pretty good time too - it makes such a difference when a mechanic has lots of experience with LT's

No, we have not had our kingpins done....
...but the job is on the cards for sometime, as we get an advisory on them every year...

From what he has said, I know Andy has done them on LT's (a lot more than once), and he has said he will be happy to do our Goldie's if/when they deteriorate enough to need doing...

I would happily recommend Dunkirk garage in Aylsham, Norfolk. It was my Florida that was spotted outside a few weeks ago. Pete Ash is a thoroughly decent bloke and he knows LT vans. He was recommended to me by a friend who also has an LT. Very happy with the work he undertook.
