ahh yes! finally started work on that eyesore thats been in the corner of my unit for about a month. crap description off seller coupled with me buying it in the dark didn't help matters! scotty's face was a picture when we rolled it into the light of the unit!!! LOL "you'll always get your money back kid on ebay?" anyway since arranging to pick the caddy up and getting fucked about a bit i started to browse the forums for some ideas of what to do to it! (hadn't even picked the fucker up yet let alone seen it in the flesh!) so had all these big ideas and then saw it in the light! fuck it stick it in the corner and i'll do some research on what you can/can't get parts and panel wise......................that was about a month ago!

so today i decide to strip the beast to see if there was owt else that was rotten or dented that i didn't know about yet!

pictures...........

on a good note it came with a lot of spares! some good some fit for the bin!

so spent an age getting the bastard cunty fucking bumper things off the back! then as it was in the air i thought i'd drop the tank exhaust and spare wheel carrier and have a poke around underneath and to be fair theres not much to do under there! a little bit infront of the nsr wheel and thats it! the mud and crap has added a layer of extra protection! Wink

so once i was done underneath i dropped her back on the floor and took off anything i could! and so gained a little pile!

followed shortly by the engine vacating it spot! i spent about 45mins less taking the engine out than it did to get the bumper things off i kid you not!

now seller told me it was over heating and it was chucking out water but it wasn't because it was hot? it was because some dickhead glued the sender in the expansion bottle and it had split! LOL anyway a good clean and degrease and its going back in! hopefully with a 5 speed box oh and a new cable as this one is frayed at the top!

pulled screen only to find a little surface rust so chuffed with that!

pulled rear screen and only found one hole!

and the bed is starting to fill up with crap too! only big stuff tho as anything small drops through the holes!!

so now theres nowt else i can take off it just a rolling shell until i can sort out my bent panels......

for the dents which the bad ones are down the nearside so some numpty couldn't drive! i'm gunna cut the panels out - straighten em out - and weld em back in! fingers crossed on that one! the front is guna get cut and remade as its bent the cross member and the inner wing a little and the sill is guna get the same treatment too cut-straight-weld! then i have a few little rust spots to sort then its tidy time! i'm not after a show truck just summat that looks half respectable that i can still throw my crap in without worrying about damaging the bed (which will be done last!)

only half day today! other stuff needs doing!
scotty brought over his slide hammer so had a play with that for half hour or so to make the side panel a little straighter. as one of the previous owners had kindly lent a hand with the dents by ramming a bar or summat through the inside of the "B" pillar i not only had dents to deal with but lots of little mountain ranges where the blunt object had been thoughtfully placed!Pinch so once i was getting nearer the shape along the bottom near the sill i cut out a section so i could tackle the hilly areas! and get to some of the other dents further down the panel.

panel behind rear wheel which was popped out from the rear light housing. looks so much better after a stint with the hammer and dolly! i'll get a base coat on before i decide on filler?

moved the caddy to get to the sills and you can see where the sliders been helping!

better picture before cut!

so as i was getting nowhere fast i cut the fucker out for better access! and set to with the hammer and dolley again then reshaped the swage line across my table. tacked in and not looking too shabby so far....

then what seemed like a lifetime spottin all the way round keeping it as cool as possible!

it's gunna need a skim of filler across it but all in all not bad considering! as theres now a slight deflection in the panel about 3/4mm i'll have another go with the slide before i do anything else

deflection in 1/4

then decided to weld up the the trim holes along the sill as i've only got one good one and its another place to trap dirt then go rusty on me!

guna try and source a new sill for below the door as thats propper mashed up i think i can use a 3 door mk1 golf sill for that but see how expensive they are or failing that i'll get a cut off someones breaker along with that front corner? hmmm might ring guz or bobcat.......

practise on summat you dont want to keep! dolly does all the work hammers just to lift dolley off inside to make it bounce. just little taps - theres better and bigger hammers for walloping stuff around!

done a bit today! well nearly finished the nearside! just got 3 little holes in the rear arch to do and it can be moved to sort the front out!

cut out damaged sill swage

chopped up my doner sill and welded back in

then i thought i'd do the jacking point and lower "A" pillar and so started to cut...then cut some more... then cut some more... you get the idea on where this is leading don't you!LOL

so all the rot gone time to get fabbing!

so one straight piece to rebuild the inner sill and one triangle to meet the "A" pillar

then one section to butt upto the chassis mounts and one piece to meet the floor

then one big bit to fill my hole! Wink looks like theres two runs of weld round the outside doesnt it? well as i've rebuilt the jacking point with 2mm steel and seamed all the way round i thought i might be better to overlap the floor plate and weld both sides for a bit more beef like! its covered so it wont be seen from the inside and its going to be soooo low i don't think anyone will want to try and get under it!

outside of the "A" pillar which will be covered by the wing - all the good bits are covered! - 3 plates here - the hole is where the grommit goes  and it'll be used for filling with cavity wax

and finally the little holes in the sills!

done!

a lifetime of ear-bleeding later (grinder and welds on thin metal ring like fuck! Shocked)

bit of red oxide to cover until we're ready for paint prep!  and no hutch its not going red like the murder wagen!

how are you droping tha back end..?
spent a day a couple of weeks back working on one of these.
the beam had been fliped onto the top of the rear leaf springs but the guy wanted to go lower..

he is on 14" rims and low pro tyres so after looking for some time at adding spacers to drop the rear spring even further from the underside of the rear springs. we came up wth another idear.

rase the front leaf spring mounts up into the body.
it was quite easy to do and all the steelwork thats needed is there..

have a look at where your front leaf spring bolts go. you will see what i meen.

may be able to get you some pics.

ooh sounds interesting! my main issue with dropping it is they seem to go into negative camber? so was thinking of shimming the stub axles but the chances of getting the bolts out without headaches are slim!

i know! i've seen quite a few that look this way lowered? they must of actually flipped the beam instead of relocating the platforms? what you think?

waste of a day today but i'll be back up tommorrow!

front section was cut out a few weeks ago so i thought i'd crack on with that

then just as ive ground it to fit and welded it in the missus calls me with a water leak in the new bathroom! oh fuck, off home we go.......

so i'll finish that off tommorrow and sort the bulkhead out so i can get the engine back in!

a slightly more productive day

finished off me my o/s/corner. and filled a few holes while i was in the area.....

then almost bought a clutch repair plate then thought fuck it i'll make one

simples as them rats say! then thought i'd strip the steering rack and get me some track rod ends and gaitors before the engine goes back in. so off to ebay for them now!

as far as i know the stub mounts are straight 90 degree.
when they re locate on top  of the rear springs it gives a fair drop. but when you want to get it very low...... it would meen loads of packers between the rear springs and the beam.
then you end up with the rear springs getting silly close to the ground.

will try to get some pics when im next at ma mate´s workshop

bit done this weekend....
saturdays fun....

stripped engine ancillaries down to fit a few bits and bobs and wheeled it outside for a degreasing session

fitted my new second hand rack and a set of track rod ends! even came with a neuspeed short shift kit! bonus!

and fitted drivers door and fucked about with that until it sat right then rewelded the bottom hinge that had split

that was it for the day so sunday brings me here....

holey holey holey!

sill

"a" pillar

inner and outer cut out and replaced

same for "a" pillar

wankey shot of how bad she's looking!

rear arches left now and everythings in my way!

so off comes the axle! one stubborn bolt but came off better than expected!

then thought i'd beat out the arches

before....

after....

cut off numberplate holder and got the wire brush out to get the flakey stuff off

and a quick paint of the bare metal before i go home!

rear shot

little bit of cleaning up under there but just inner arches to sort mainly

sorry! missus called me away! the rear bumper is made oversize to protect 1/4s and i am going to make a roll over bar to bolt into the door hinges. as i only have the front struts bolted up on the shell and nowt else,i'll whip off front wheels - take out trolley from the rear and flip it! i've been picking up the rear and dragging it about lately to get to me wood pile for home so it's starting to get in my way! and the engine is taking up valuble space too! need a bigger unit or less projects! made up the rear bumper and cut an extension piece to make it stickout further to protect me 1/4's! then made up the hinge bar for the door and whipped off me two front wheels. brute force and ignorance and its on its side!

dicked about getting the rear bush back in which took a fookin age! then poked around the arches to see what a mess i made! you forget what you did and where you put stuff! Ermm
