Subject: which donor is best for a TDI 1.9 conversion

have come across a 1998 SEAT ALHAMBRA 1.9 TDI AUTO ,
is this a good choice ? i assume i would have to pickup a flywheel/clutch setup of a manual car ?
ideally what is the best donor for a 1.9TDI conversion ?
regards
Matt

I believe the auto box ecu's are different to manual box ecu's

Auto ECU is different, but still not a bad donor car, really a golf 3 or seat ibiza, cordoba or toledo are your best bets as they are a more simple vehicle and ideal if you have not done a TDi conversion before

cheers guys , is a mk4 golf tdi ok to use ?
i have done many other engine conversions in other cars (vauxhall , suzuki , honda etc ), so i am very happy with ECU's and wires etc. .. , allthough never done a TDI .
i do have a re-cond gearbox that i was going to use with my SVX engine , ok , it sounds like it could do with a high gear really .. but better that what i have ., (guess you can cheat a little on tire sizes )
i have been reading allot on here , but as allways ... everyone seems to have done it a little different ..
cheers

hi, in a word...no, the mk4s like ALH etc have a different block, that in itself is not an issue but the sump of the t3 wont bolt on the the mk4 blocks, also the mounts wont, anything is possible and PD engines can be put in but for a sraight forward swap (ahem) you need to find a 1Z or AFN type motor with the water pump driven via the crank pulley not the cambelt as on a mk4. also the mk 4 electrickery is more involved...can be done but more of it and also the early TDIs dont have an immob to get round (pre 94 i think)

cheers , just read about the mk4 , also need clocks etc , (speedo pickup i think )
assume my standard diesel fuel tank is fine for a TDI conversion , i know with some of the engine conversions i have done before i had needed to increase the size of fuel lines running from the tank etc

i would avoid that because A, its a bin B, the t4 engine has no dipstick on the front of the block so you would have to drill one and block the old one and (C) i dont even think they do a tdi 4 pot t4...might be wrong but as theres no engine code stated i cant check...get a golf or passat one..earlier the better.

Trying to find a donor car myself, so if anyone knows of one local to them....... It would be appreciated. AHU, AFN preferred. I've set myself a £500 limit Cheers, Lloyd
