Whats the 0-60 time of a swb Sportline, the book says 12.2 Sec? That would make it the same as my new T5 140bhp!

I've timed mine a few times at around 10 seconds. It's the standard 174 ps, not re-mapped

That 12.2 sec figure never seemed right. The figure for the new 180 is quoted as 9.9 which makes what Tony gets sound about right.

My son timed mine at around 10 seconds on a nice flat road. as with Tony no remap. It definitely aint 12.2.

VW performance figures quote 0 -62 mph and not 0 - 60 mph for some reason. I've timed my unmapped LWB 174 at about 10 seconds when the van is empty of tools etc.
VW are quoting 9.9 secs for 0 - 62 mph for the new Bi-turbo 180 vans so the 0 - 60 mph should be a tad faster. Also they are quoting 119 mph top end.
All sounds better on paper but we will have to wait and see when the new Sportline is launched.
I'm gonna stick with my current van in the meantime and see what 0 - 60 mph is after my Celtic 228 BHP remap. After all the snow and ice have gone of course.

It depends how you measure the speed. The speedometer is likely to be optimistic to the tune of 3-4 mph at 60,so to get a 0-62 figure using the speedo, you may need to see an indicated 66mph,which would have the time heading nearer VW's official 12.2 if the 10 sec quotes above were at an indicated 60mph.

That is true. I am aware of my van's speedo under reading to the tune of about 5 mph. I would time it with my Road Angel GPS but it doesn't react quick enough. Quarter mile at the track maybe ? Bug Jam ?

I thought all the performance figures for the vw vans were taken with a certain amount of payload in them for some reason. I'm sure when you looked at the figures for the older version it has an asterix by the figure and below in small print it said with 50% payload, or maybe this was just for the fuel economy figures?

It probably means 50% load of sheared drive shafts...it'll end in tears, y'know.

quoted figures by most manufacturers are bollocks.
The Rev is right, when I got my 3.0 jag the quoted 0-60 was 6.6 seconds or thereabouts but I nearly goosed the gearbox, clutch and engine trying to verify this on the first day....strange burning smells all round! (jag is now for sale btw...everything works honest!)

When I bought my 174 new in March 06 I knew I was going to be keeping it for a very long time.
The idea of puttting the DMF, driveshafts, tyres and whatnot through the stresses of a drag start will never, ever enter my "to do" list!

I've timed my un-chipped 174 at 9.4ish when empty, using both an iphone app, and manual stopwatch, timing to indicated 63ish for a 0-60, not 0-62 time.
And my driveshaft has just failed, arsetits.

Is it possible that the two are somehow linked?

In your case "0 - 60" should be sustituted with "0 - fixed"

Yeah i'm the same. I LOVE MY VAN and i've often said to my missus that if i won the lottery I would buy myself a brand new Sportline van and do the same. Wheels, suspension, engine performance etc. I would rather have that than a Ferrari/Porsche etc. More practical as well.
And it's funny when you blow away the odd car here and there Some people out there don't realise how fast they are, after all it's just a van - how come it just blew me away ?***???
Another thing - it would be completely empty - no tools or heavy shite in the load bay for maximum mapped performance.
I'm in the market for a new van for my son - been thinking about a Sportline Caddy also - keep the tax bill low and all that.
I missed out on the Sportline T5 as I bought my van in 2004 before it was launched otherwise that's what i'd have now. My van is still too good to sell at the moment and I don't relish spending out another £25k + on a new Sportline at the moment.

I hear you fella. I absolutely adore my van - if something goes wrong with it I'm in bits!
but for me the van is about getting me and my stuff from A to B in comfort and style. I can win the traffic light GP with any one of my faster, lighter toys (apart from the kart, it'd get stuck on a catseye).

I love my van for everything it does at work and play but when it comes to 0-60 times and whatnot, it is a van after all (albeit a pretty amazing one!!) so I know in acceleration it performs like an average diesel hatchback, nothing more. And in the handling stakes, let's be honest....
It's in smiles per mile that it really excels!!

My van is my work van. Self employed kitchen fitter..... I'm known to travel 200 miles to a job so i literally live in it sometimes so i opted for the Sportline as lets face it, if you can stretch to it what the hell... i may be dead next year!. I too choose the van before the family car[192bhp mini cooper s] for everyday running around. We also use it for days out and as Saunton beach is only 5 minutes from home it's often an excellent day van with surf boards etc all chucked on the roofbars. I said for years if i won the lottery thats what i'd buy. Got fed up waiting so bought one anyway. Accountant thought it was a good idea. Hopefully when i trade it for the next one it'll be a decent deposit. No remap yet, don't really want to tamper as it runs so well anyway but we'll see. Oh and after 1 DMF already i'm pretty subdued in 1st and 2nd gears, get to 3rd and here we go! It really isn't "just a van".
