Hello all,

I'm fitting a Caravelle front end to my panel van. I have a full list of the parts needed and have been quoted £503 for the complete bumper including all the chrome bits, (upper rad grille and lower "sharks tooth" grille). Can anyone who has bought these recently say if this is a reasonable price?

Also, been quoted £350 to paint and fit the above and original rear bumper, mirror covers and barn door spoiler. Again, does this sound ok?

Lastly, I have been hearing conflicting info about the VW badge on the front grille. Some are saying I need a new one to fit the Caravelle grille, others say I can use the one off the panel van grille? Does anyone have the part no for the panel van one please?

Thanks for any help.

MDIB

A mate of mine bought the full kit last week and the pricing sounds about right, he said that you DID need a new badge also.

Another friend of mine is charging £250 to flat and spray everything.

I did the swap on a 2005 panel van and the badge fits just fine.

The price for the parts sounds about right, although I paid £200 at a local VW approved accident and repair place for mine to be painted, but I did fit it myself.

I'll be that mate of blazin's -

The retail price on my invoice from VW was about £470 but that didn't include a chrome grill or badge, just a primed grill for colour coding. I think the Sportline or 'sharks tooth' lower grill was extra too.

I was told I needed a new badge - I'm glad I didn't buy one now Smile Glad I was a doubting thomas for once.

There was a recent thread where Mr Hedgehog posted a scan of his invoice from VW and I pretty much used this when talking to VW - so thanks to Mr Hedgehog. I think someone needs to post it in the Useful parts thread - I certainly found it very useful! the thread was 'T5 front end'

If you're fitting a Sportline spoiler you don't appear to need the 2 lower trims that the fog lights fit behind - 7H5807489 & 7H5807490. Unhappy

Off to see my sprayer at lunch time - I hope he's not too busy as I want it all on now!

I ordered the parts through TPS as you get genuine VW parts with at least 10% discount. You also don't need to know any part numbers as they are really good at looking up the parts for you on their computers. You simply tell 'em what you want and they give you a price.

I didn't need a grill with mine as I ordered an ABT grill and I also had a rear bumper already from German eBay. I think the total price for the front velle bumper, with trims, minus the grill was somewhere just over the £300 mark from TPS.

There are TPS (trade Part Specialists) all over the country so it's just a matter of looking up your nearest one. They also deliver as well.

Thanks for the replies folks, much appreciated.

I'll not bother getting a new VW badge then. £20 saved alreadyApprove.

Wot no mud?- did you need part no 7H5807820GRU (trim) if you fit the lower grille?

TIA, MDIB

If you want to off-load those lower trims I could be interestedWink.

Let us know what your sprayer says cost wise, are you just getting the bumper done?

I hope I don't get told orf for my first post - it wasn't an ad. Embarrassed

I'm no expert but just looking at the bumper sat in my garage and the relevant bits I would say you can do without the strip. It's the central body coloured bit you see on a std Caravelle lower grill. Offering up the new chrome 'sportline' grill it looks like it will be plenty hidden. People will be looking at the lovely shiney grill anyway!

I've been quoted £425 for spraying but that includes front bumper and all it's bits, Sportline front spoiler, rear bumper and barn door spoiler - in shadow blue.

It also includes a big scratch and small dent repair to one of my rear doors where some git at the Plymouth MTB National clobbered it whilst we were camped!!!!

You do need that strip in the lower grill otherwise it looks really crap without it as you can still see it behind the stainless steel lower grill. It also only costs £12.

However I sprayed mine black (my van is white) as I was using the stainless steel lower grill which does look better with the strip as it tidies up the lower grill while not being an obvious white strip through it at the same time.

I know this as TPS forgot to give me the strip with my bumper and when I put it on the van it looked crap so had to go and buy one.

You can see how it looks below:-
