Anyone had one fitted ? I`m interested in having one installed but I can`t decide wether it`s best to have it fitted by a company that specialises in sun roof installations or wether it might be best to get it fitted at a Volkswagen van centre. Nowt fancy, just a dark tinted glass jobbie that pops up or can be removed if required.

Bump. Come on guys, just an "off the top of yer head" comment will do, somebody must have either had it done or thought about having it done.

Are you thinking of having a genuine VW sunroof, or one made by someone else?

I would want to see a job done by the specialist company before I would consider using them.  Best would be to see a Vdub as similar to yours as possible.

Is there much of a difference in price between the two options?

I'd ask the VW centre who fits their after-market sunroofs.

I used to get the local sunroof centre to fit the in our Alfa's in the past and never had a problem with the simple pop-up glass roofs.

The more complicated ones that slide back were more problematic and a darn site more expensive.

we fit glass roofs, i think all vag centres get specialists in to fit them, the thing you have to keep in mind with any sunroof is, if bits break, like clips, hinges, or fittings, you have to be able to replace them. so many sunroof suppliers have gone bust leaving un-repairable roofs, -- look for a company with good product support, and no, i dont meen me

Try looking for a Webasto fitter.... in time, and when I have the spare funds, i'm gonna ask them about fitting a full length fabric slider to the back of mine behind the factory roof already fitted.

Their website suggests they fit/manufacture several OEM rooves and they've been around for years!

Hi i had a vw electric sunroof fitted prior to delivery at the factory cost just over £400 money well spent although coming from glasgow havent seen much sun.I would be very careful aboutfitting an after market job due to water ingress and also corrosion ,dont know if vw could retro fit one but it may be worthwile asking although i think it will cost a lot more than the factory option.

Just a thought....Norwich Union wouldn't insure my T4 after fitting a sunroof....they said it was a modification & they didn't insure modifications!

Might be worth checking...I got cover with Adrian Flux.

The one for my T4 was fitted by Vansport in Cornwall for about £225 I think....in fact I've got two!

Thanks for that chaps, I`m going for the first mot on monday so I can ask the workshop guy, better than asking the receptionist and getting a load of waffle. I also have a product name (Webasto) and a ball park figure price (£400). Thanks again.

I bought one off ebay for a tenner, a couple of hours with a jigsaw and plenty of sealant and it was in. No leaks, the only fiddly bit was refitting headlining.
