Has anyone a LT Mk1 or Mk2 pre-purchase list of things to inspect on the LT?  I searched but didn't see anything.  Thanx

I have just seen this, even though I check most sections each day. Perhaps it would have been better placed in LT1 Chat to reach the correct audience. It is quite possible that LT1 owners do not stray from their section, possibly the same as any model owner.

1s and 2s are completely different and so they have very little in common.

The youngest LT1 is twenty years old now, and rust is the main problem. The body goes though the chassis stays strong. The lower skirts are available through Arek.

Engines seem to last forever, even the earlier Audi and Perkins models. Parts for petrol models are shared with the 4cylinder engines of the same period, mk2 Golf etc  I think. Same for the D24 Diesel. Perkins parts I cannot comment on.

The gearshiftbushes wear giving rise to a proper pudding stirring experience. So far no gearbox problems have shown up, and changing the bushes, a total of six, makes a massive difference. One type is still available from VWCommercial, one type from me and soon the last type too.

The site of the fusebox is right in the firing line for any water getting through the bottom left corner of the windscreen, via a rusty hole. They are easily pulled apart and restored, it is just a little daunting to start with.

Before you ask about changing the wheels, do a search first.

Good luck in the search, plenty of very nice vans about.

Mk2 have more economical motors, higher cruising speeds, full parts availability and lots of choice, they may not look classic but the difference in drive between the two is like night and day. The modern stuff has more electronic gizmos to fail but they do go uphill rather well and you won't get a better bargain priced vw van imho
