No spark from coil.

   I recently had the engine put back in my T3 2000cc aircooled camper but i'm not getting a spark from the coil. I tested the connections with a meter and there is 12v getting to the coil and there is 12v getting to the 7 pin ignition control unit. The wires coming back out of the unit, that go to the distributor, have varying voltages. One pin has 12v, one has about 3v and the other has nothing. Is this correct or do I have a faulty ingnition control unit? If anyone out there has a wiring diagram for the ignition system I would be very greatful since I'm not quite sure whether I've even wired the coil up properly. Not being a  engine mechanic please could you keep it simple. Thanks in advanced.
