Newby to the T3. Got an 81 with 1600 CT engine. Just failed MOT on, amongst other things, emissions.

12 months and about 6000 miles ago Co was 0.11% and hc 159ppm

It's now Co 0.6% but the HC 2472 ppm. It's a standard engine, car, ignition setup. Bus runs fine. Any clues what might be the cause of this huge jump and how it could be remedied?.
Many thanks.

Start with the basics, remove sparky's are they all the same colour or just one black for example.
If so which cylinder.
Check breather hoses, air filter, engine oil - does it smell of petrol.
Check float level in carb, sometimes the float develops a leak and lets more fuel through.
Let us know what if anything you find.

Had the bus stood still for any length of time before the test?

Been used daily. Gonna have a good look tomorrow ready for retest Tuesday. Did find one of the air filter vacuum hoses disconnected so hopeful it's a lean burn misfire issue. Will update once I know more. Thanks all.
