Topic: Lower van speed limit reminder! Posted: 30 Apr 07 at 21:40 |
A recurring thread this, but a mate was stopped over the weekend for doing 59mph on a 60mph derestricted road for speeding! Fortunately for my pal, the copper was a decent enough bloke to let him off with a warning, but it's a timely reminder that the panel van fraternity amongst us have to watch out this summer. Especially Newbies who may not know of this stupid law... Rule doesn't apply to Kombis, Shuttles and 'Velles - lucky sods! previous thread: http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=10293& amp;KW=van+speed+limit&TPN=1 |

If it's a panel van then your [legal] limits are: 50mph on single & dual carraigeway roads marked 60mph 60mph on derestricted dual carraigeways marked 'derestricted sign' 50mph on roads marked 50mph 70mph on motorways - thankfully
basically, 10mph less than everyone else on most of the roads we all travel on most of the time |

Yes a bit worrying, it seems to be happening more often now. I usually do about 70 on our main road so that makes me 20 over the limit. Trouble is everyone drives like it, if you do 60 you get a queue a mile long behind you, but 50???? I'd feel like i was going backwards I think it's about time speed limits for vans were reviewed, they're just as safe and quick as cars these days (unless you've got an 85 like me that is )

I have never had a problem with this and I drive at car speeds all the time (I bet I will get done for it now saying this) All I do is stick to the flow of the traffic speeds in speed check areas What counties seem to be hot on this van speed limit as in my experience Wiltshire, Berkshire, Dorset, Devon don’t seem to care at all |

Jumped Ship to a Vito but I hear a 2021 T6 calling, only real difference is the Vito cab is more car like.

Watch out in Lincolnshire- they are red hot on it there. It does of course confirm once and for all that they are there for revenue and not for safety reasons. Anyone who has tried sticking to exactly 50 mph on an A road for any length of time will confirm it is in itself dangerous, and you are seen by some who are unaware of the law as a prat. It results in frustration of those following (often lorries with another 6 mph on tap!) and dangerous overtaking to get past. |
