Anyone replaced their interior cabin light bulbs with LED ones?

How do they handle the dimming that takes place as the lights go off?

Are they worth the money?

Hello Berisford,

I replaced all three of my interior lights with LED ones.  They seem to have coped with the dimming fine (so far, anyway, but I mostly drive during the day, so I leave them switched off nearly all the time).  They have a whiter light than filament globes, but more focussed, so they are slightly brighter in the centre of the beam, but not as good a spread out to the sides.

They weren't particularly dear, but the main reason I bought them was because they use a lot less current so they shouldn't flatten my van's battery if I accidentally left them switched on - yes, now I know my van is too smart to let that happen, but I didn't know that at the time I ordered them   .

On balance, until someone brings a version out that has much brighter beam and a broader spread then I don't think it is worth changing from the standard globes.  I purchased two different types of LEDs, both were supposed to be "extra bright", but I wasn't that impressed (but they were fairly cheap).

Hi Berisford & Greg,

Here in Oz there are at least 2 types of LED interior lights available, presuming they are the same fitting as older VW's (T3 in particular, but I remember them way back to beetles).  One of the guys on the Syncro Tour (T3's) in January had one that he got from Jaycar electronics which was markedly brighter than standard. I think he said he paid about $16, but on the website they were about $25. I got one at Dick Smiths for about $8, thinking I'd got a bargain, but it is no brighter than the standard filament.
