Chaps/Chappesses...

Bit OT this one..  Old boy in the village has a Fabia 1.4 MPI , 2002.  Wouldn't start so he asked me to have a look.

Classic VAG immobiliser symptoms, and after sticking VCDS on it and clearing fault codes it started again.

Warned him that it may come back and lo and behold it has.  Although now it won't clear the fault code and stay cleared and start.

So, would really like to remove the immo - any of you diesel/petrol boys had any luck in getting the immo burned out of the ECU?  I have the numbers/codes of car and ECU.

Thanks

Hutch

Are you certain it is the immobiliser ?

On both mine the engine will start, run for a couple of seconds then stop with a immo light (T5) or immo msg (Skoda).  It will subsequently start and stay running as soon as a correctly coded and programmed chip is placed near the ignition switch, with no further error lights/msgs.

I think it is engineered that way so you don't get confused between starting problems and immo problems.

yup, classic VAG immo symptoms, backed up by reading the fault codes

Old boy has 3 keys for it.  Same symptoms with all of them (when it does it)

oooh...  didn't know about that, may have to go and have a google..

I *think* the immo is in the dash cluster, wondered wether the signal can be converted back to an immo II box (like we do on the AGG GTi conversion..)

dunno, forgot, didn't write it down..  defo immo thou.

not the "weak signal" one, just the one that gets logged on a start attempt with no immo handshake.

Alex, can you find out if this has the immo in the clocks or ecu?  I've got the VIN

I can try..but it's in both kinda...try disconnecting the battery and putting the red one on the black one...often works as sometimes a low start voltage mangles the immo and it goes wibbley.

cheers chap..  already tried that one and it does clear, but the thing is the old boy is in his seventies, and doesn't trust the car anymore.  apart from that it's a cracking little motor - about 40K on the clock, lucky if he does 1K a year in it these days..
