Well we had some money burning a hole in our pockets and thought long and hard about what to do with it, sensible stuff, an ISA, pay off some mortage, stick it in the building society but after consideration and a rush of blood to the head we invested it in this:

For those that don't know it's a Ginetta G15, and this particular one is a genuine 1 owner 20K mile car that was taken off the road and garaged in 1982, so has been owned by the same person for 38 years!!!  It doesn't actually need it but I am going to give it a full body off rebuild although part of me thinks it would be fun to get it back on the road as it is because of it's history and genuine honest looks.

I've always fancied one of these since being well into Imps when I was in my late teens.

What better way to invest a few grand!!!

My mate had one in the eighties and used to have regular A road races with a Lotus Elan on their way to work. The Ginetta faired pretty well! Think the engine was a in a high state of tune, stage 3 head etc.. Nice little carThumbs Up

Hi Nugget,

Cool Davrian!  There arn't many left, especially good ones!  Clan Crusaders are also cool Imp based kit cars.  Not many of those about either!  Imps are becoming popular with the retro cars tuning crowd.  Check out Retro Cars magazine on line for a super-cool Imp van!

I was/possibly still am well into Imps back in the day as well.  Ever heard of Andy Chesman/Greetham Engineering/latterly Andy Chesman Engineering (ACE)?  Andy was World renowned as an Imp tuner, taught at his step father (Ernie Greetham's) knee.  His motors won everything in every class they raced in.  Andy himself raced Imp engined hydroplanes, and then later on outboard racing hydroplanes.  I was his second mechanic, next to his brother in law, my oldest friend Ron who was crew chief.  We did this for 15 years or more and won everything there was to win in hydro racing while Andy's engines cleaned up in cars and drag bikes.  We also used to do speed record attempts.  138mph in an Imp engined hydro on Lake Windermere, after 5 years developing the outfit!  The engine was 1338cc I think, or something like that - can't remember it's too long ago!  There wasn't much standard Imp stuff inside that motor by the time we had finished sorting it.  Andy invented something called the Chesman 'Wedge-Head', a special cylinder head which produced a huge step change in power.

Tragically, Andy was killed in a boat racing accident 10 years or so ago.  One of the biggest losses in my life I don't hesitate to admit, like the big brother I never had.  I remain in contact with his 3 daughters and we are all still involved to some degree or other in boat racing.  His youngest and I are members of 2 clubs and we see each other several times a season.  Boat racing - It never leaves you once it has got to you!

Put 'Andy Chesman' into Google and see what you get!  Sadly some of the alleged facts are incorrect though on some websites.

If you ever fancy watching a powerboat race just let me know and you can bring the Nuggets along to camp out for a weekend with pleasure!  And we can chew the fat next time I see you at a show!

With best wishes, and enjoy your Davrian!

I agree with Stacey I'm afraid. They just look like 100 different kit cars to me.

Whatever floats your boat like. Are they Imp based or something? If so, i'd much rather see an Imp... or a Stilletto... now theyre a cool car!

Agreed, but what do I know! Suppose it is better than an ISA.

Never seen one before around here, or in the UK for that fact, two things : I like the design, Nice  but could do without the chrome door surrounding ( to match the other glass).Definitely remove the heated rear window thing, it  removes the charm or ( looks shit) if you want. Hope you enjoy it!

By the way, its not just the design, its the way it goes, and i do hope it goes pretty well as it is a light motor.

Thanks for the comments peeps, especially PaulG very interesting.  I'm currently in that interim stage of having stuck a deposit on the car and waiting to pick it up which is frustrating to say the least.

Just for the record for those of you who don't get it the Ginetta is more than just a kit car and in the flesh looks a lot more factory than in the photo's plus they have a true sporting heritage (one important factor that draws me to it), it is a bit of a poor mans Elan (probably my classic car of choice if I was loaded) but for those in the know it does have a certain cult status, plus the Imp engine properly built is an absolute gem, knocks an A series into the weeds, I fitted a Tony Hatcher (ex works Hartwell Imp engine man) motor into my Imp back in the day and it was awesome, used to keep up with 1275 Mini's and 1600 Escorts all from just 875cc, slowing it down was bit of an issue though with drum brakes all round and uber fade requiring drastic use of engine braking (remember that?)

It's strange how some cars never leave you the Imp and Imp based stuff is one, my old Lancia Beta Coupe another and my Alfasud Ti another, to be honest they were all awful to me (broke down and cost me dear) but for all the VW's I've owned (Golf GTI's and Scirocco's) which were totally dependable and easy to run I would sooner have one of my querky old motors as a fun car any day....why is that?
