ebay £100
 picked it up ,wagon strapped it to roof and elephant taped the edges,drove it 200 mile home
 the main body was in poor shape so of to the bodyshop for repair and paint (£250)
 pop top painted and under side ready for a good thick bead of tiger seal round the inner frame!
 a good thick bead down each gutter !
 the roof on and strapped down tight - painted in a textured grey to match bumps/planks-grey camo canvas and white slimline cap !!
 - thats enough for this week- going to the mighty dub fest this weekend-see if it blows off and causes a multiple car pile up on motorway !!!!!!

yip, got to order 8 meter rubber seal for the cap and find 8meters of waterproof grey urban camo material/canvas-having trouble finding it,can find it in 100% cotton-no good, can find it in 100% cotton drill but not sure if up thats to the job! i can use fabsil to waterproof it ! then cut a hole in me roof and make bedboards and trim inside! just back from mighty dub fest,newcastle and might have poptop finished for next weekend |

the suns out,get thee cap on ! managed to get the poptop cap hold down toggles on today,used some old bits of leftover seal as spacers til new one arrives tom !! stil struggling to find artic camo fabric(light grey/dark grey/black)- not even in digital camo ! might end up just grey !!

hmm tell me about it, it pissed down sat eve and filled the main bit an inch ! at least the inside seal is watertight !it did have 4 holes 1 in each corner(see upside down pic) ,iv sealed the rear ones and drilled through the sides about an inch above the gutter at front (just visable in pix) and sealed in some small pipe! was thinking of just cargo netting the front or maybe a leather cover ! might even lower the high part of the front to make it level with rest of the poptop and make it more streamline and have a lower coefficient of drag-lol its a brick !!!!!!!!!!

got me 8m devon seal from justkampers fitted today, £35 delivered ! was goint to Tcut the roof but didnt have any so used MER and a sponge scouring pad-mint(dont do this on your paint work) !
iv got a few steps left ! fit head liner ,windscreen out and paint the white bit round top of it grey,fit bedboards & carpet fit side canvas (found this canvas but not my cup o tea,looks like a humbug http://www.conceptpoptops.co.uk/#/T3/4530407258 )
gives me some idea of my finished job !oh yes and cut a big hole !

yes,iv seen about 3 different tops,all using the same bottom bit but the deeper ones have the hard sides when up ! some have the black poptop bit that is higher than the luggage rack-horrible! the one in the link to concept poptops above is identical to mine with 4 spring loaded poles/lifters !

cant find artic camo anywhere although iv seen motorbike jackets and trousers in artic cordura material!! so just bought grey
 !!
thought id better clean/paint the lifting frame,1can primer and 1 can satin from B&Q !!
   purchased 10mx1.5m of grey 'cordura' material for the sides !
 i only need about 7.4m x 70cm so measured and cut !
 will wrap this round in 1 and have a stitched seam at the rear,and some zip windows front,left and right!
 also got some light grey 3mm foam backed material for a head cloth

made a hole today , marked all round 30mm (just happens to be the measurment from the edge of the jigsaw to the blade) and used a plastic lid for the corners !(hint-make sure the jigsaw batterys charged-all 3 of them!!)
 id pulled the headliner down from inside before cutting by pulling the rods down with long nose plyers
 i went round the edge's with a file and then some primer , cut the 3 rods out of headliner and cut it round leaving an inch to wrap/trim round edge and fitted the spring loaded lifting rods
        i think there is about 75cm if lift but will prob only use 70 to keep the canvas tight! we managed to get the top bolted on before a bit of rain ,it will need to come back off to headcloth ,not far off now!!

ya work on this looks brilliant, just wondered why you've got the ironing board on the roof though? :OP
make sure you get paint on the edges of the hole you cut in the roof, primer absorbs moisture!
looking good man, hope you finish it before the weather changes! thats the challange

lol , cheers about primer-it was zinc oxide just couldnt be bothered to type it (dose that need painting ??) the ironing board is really unstable without the canvas,has a tend to 'seesaw' back/forward it stands about 15ft in the 'westy' position lol

iv painted the edge's today and messed around with a piece of canvas !
i had to temp put 4 guide ropes on the corners to stop the 'seesaw' effect and pull it down a little and level it !
also as vw used the same roofs for LHD and RHD im going to buy 2 more interior lights,cut the head liner and fit them into the holes on the pass side that were blanked off under the head cloth ! 4 is better than 2 and fitted with blue led festoon bulbs you can run them all night with no fear of flattening the batt !
above pass front seat ( lhd ) !!(you can feel them through the head liner)
 the rear one cut and blanked off temp
 guide ropes holding it down a little and level
   a bit of canvas round-still feels iv loads to do-head liner , canvas , bedboards , trim out and slimline roof vent !!!!!!!!!
