Well I've wanted to change the double front seat for some time but couldn't really justify the expense (especially with the Credit Crunch and all that) so when a brand new T4 Captains Seat came up on Ebay I took the chance and bid for it - not knowing whether the T4 & T5 bases are compatible...

They're not   LOL

HOWEVER...

The T5 bench seat is held in place by eight studs

The single seat just held in by four - no problem there but ...

Whereas the holes at the front of the T4 base correspond with those of the T5 base, the ones at the back are to far forward by approx 1 inch...
There was just enough room in the base to drill a 12mm hole at either side and the seat fitted perfectly.

The seat is the same pattern as my T5 but a slightly different colour but with decent covers on it won't notice. [Mrs O didn't notice until I pointed the difference out to her]

I'm off to the Scottish Highlands in November and dragging Mrs O with me but she's not dreading the long journey so much as she was with the double seats that don't relax.

Yes the seat is in pristine condition.
It is a bit lower than the T5 seat but I am pleased with it - I'm almost tempted to replace my T5 drivers seat with one (if I can find another in such good nick)

I'm looking to swap my double for a single some time soon..
But I was wondering what effect it has on the flooring eg. The rubber mat etc..

Do you have to replace it or is it the same..

Cheers. Digs.

Digs,

I've done the swap and can tell you the only thing that needs sorting out is a couple of holes in the floor mat between the seats. Approx 10p size where two of the bolts held the doulble seat down. Apart from that it's fine.

Dead simple...
The double bench seat and base (boxed section) is held in place by eight of the studs (pictured in my first post above).
The whole lot can be lifted out in one - I found it easiest to lift it backwards in to the rear of the van and out through the slider.
Can be done by one person but, due to the weight, it's obviously a lot easier with two...

The only thing I didn't mention earlier wis that there are about half a dozen eletrical connectors 'attached' to the base. I simply disconnected them, removed them from the base and reconnected...
Job's a good un...

As MDIB says you will only see two of these holes which will be in your newly acquired space between the seats...
If you are likely to be bothered by them, the most aesthetically pleasing option would be to buy a T5 carpet from roadmark69  (http://www.megavanmats.com/)
