Due to a newborn, purchasing a T6 and living in London my sister in law is regretfully having to part with her beloved Dave who is a 1986 Volkswagen T3 Joker Westfalia 1.6TD. She has owned Dave for 9 years and was for many of these years her only mode of transport and daily driver so well looked after and maintained especially with many return trips to Switzerland and Cornwall where she used to work. Dave never let her down and having owned him for so many years many will understand this is a tough sale for her, as these campers become part of the family, cliche as it sounds! You will notice that Dave has been off the road for a few years and now resides in the outskirts of Edinburgh. This is due to Dave coming up for myself and wife to use a few times and to do a few repairs which ended up growing arms and legs! I personally run a taxi and coach company so we have been doing the work in house in our own workshop. Majority of the work that has been carried out was a lot of bodywork and the usual rot and rust cut out and replaced with good quality new panels from Alan Schofields. Panels replaced are as follows: Left and Right rear corners Left cab door step Left outer and inner sill Left rear arch and lower sill section Left lower side panel All the above was cut out and replaced with new panels and sections and resprayed to a good high standard as the pictures show. ( I have photos of all the bodywork and welding that was carried out ) Dave is now solid all round with no impending chassis rot bar a potential right hand side cab step possibly needing replaced in the future. Mechanically Dave has had the following in the last 18 months: New fog light New exhaust back box New hazard switch New windscreen washer pump All brakes have been striped, cleaned and adjusted with new pipes and cylinders. Cooling system has received a good check and fresh coolant 4 months ago the diesel pump was fully reconditioned at a cost of over £360 and fitted with a new Timing belt, tensioner and cam cover gasket. 2 months ago a brand new power steering rack was fitted at a cost of over £400 with the old power steering fluid fully flushed and replaced with new. Also prior to MOT the rear spring locators on top of the trailing arms were replaced on both sides by brickwerk replacements. Trailing arms are all solid. Both Diesel pump and steering rack have 12 months warranty from fitting. Also in the last month it has received the following: New Clutch Front N/S Wheel bearing Oil seal Cam cover gasket New battery with warranty With the welding, painting and new parts Dave has had over £3200 spent on him and is MOT’d until next Feb 2022. In 2011 the previous owner fitted a reconditioned engine ( receipt included in Dave’s Folder ) with 267-209KM on the speedo, he now sits at 295 777 - so roughly 28000Km on this engine (or 18000 miles) The clutch and 4 speed gearbox are fantastic to use - much better and easier to use than my own 1989 T3 California 5 speed dogleg gearbox! I’ve had a quick look over the receipts and in her ownership she has maintained Dave to a high standard with some of the recent parts include: New Alternator, water pump, power steering pump, turbo pipe, starter motor, usual wear and tear items such as brake discs, pads, track rod ends, belts, etc, etc She also had the front captain seats re-trimmed in a lovely cream and red leather which are still in fantastic condition which along with the alloy wheels really sets him off. On the inside: Standard westfalia interior with 4 berth set up. Captain seats with swivel bases Buddy seat Gas cooker all working All interior lights working Original heater works! Water system works with new recent parts incl pipework and tap. Rare winter pack plastic windows all round bar front doors. Dash Tidy with pull out map table As you will notice Dave has a different high top fitted from Reimo. This was fitted when Dave was only 2 years old. This was carried out in Germany and we have all the paperwork with TUV certificate so this was done professionally and to a good standard. There are no leaks whatsoever! I can only assume original owner could not live with the pop top? Dave has a folder ( weighs a tonne! ) full of paperwork, receipts and German paperwork. This has all the import paperwork, german owners paperwork, original manuals & Spare key too. Also one main key does all locks. Only 2 previous owners since registered in UK, I’d assume it would have had a couple in Germany. Imported to the UK in 2004. Happy for any inspection and also can be viewed on a lift. Dave has not been under-sealed yet as it gives a chance for any viewers to view him underneath prior to under-sealing which will be included in the price. Known issues: Requires leisure battery Fridge doesn’t work but may work with a new leisure battery? However at this age not many fridges still work and many are replaced or overhauled. Sliding door lower edge - rubber seal has fallen off due to a section of the mounting lip rusting, the outer and inner sill is solid! Inside the Tailgate has a bit of rust which will need seeing to in the future. It has started to bubble slightly on the outside too. Ideally needs new floor covering and boot covering. Inside floor we have used a universal rubber mat so that the new owner can get by but this is one of the many items that can be personalised. Fan switch does not work on the dash and works off an aftermarket switch. As with all T3’s of this age there are small areas of surface rust coming through: Front lower panel behind front bumper Tailgate as discussed Around petrol filler and lower down at bottom of B pillar Passenger Step as discussed Lacquer peel on the chrome dish of the alloys - may polish off? A few door rubbers and window seals will need replacing soon, easily sourced and fitted. Photos of the above all available. As you will see from mot history Dave has been off the road for a few years, I have recently taken him for a few good run’s and their were no issues at all thanks to a lot of mechanical work has been carried out. Dave is priced at £9450 ovno Due to location I am happy to do a walk round video or take further photos on request. Any questions please get in touch - 07729284784 or info@coachhireedinburgh.net |
