Hi!
Where can I get a speedometer wire for my LT35 td car transporter. The old one is warm off on the cable about 15cm from the gearbox.. the little (I think brown) toothed plastic thing inside the gearbox seems to be whole. The wire is now going to a box in the cabin and then to the speedometer from there. I'd love to disconnect that box and runs the new cable directly to the speedometer. I searched a bunch bit couldn't find where to get a new cable. I live in Norway, but I don't mind shipping if from anywhere in Europe.. Thanks:) I'm not with the car right now so I don't have any photos of the cable. PS. Is this a topic for tech or for the other forum?

Get the part number and it becomes much easier.

Thanks! After reading a bit, I see that on the cars that has a tachograph in addition to the speedometer, there is also a little "speedometer gearbox" called "compensating gear". Seems like its job is to transfer the rotation from the cable coming from the gearbox into two cables, one going to the tachograph and the other to the speedometer. Now my question is: does this compensating gear change the speed of the wire -- Can I just bypass it with a direct wire gearbox to speedometer, or will the speedometer not work right then? And again, if someone knows where to get those wires, that will be of great help! I can't find any, even googling the part numbers.. :/ Found this page explaining a bit as well: http://www.lt-forum.de/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=start:wichtige_daten:daten_ritzel_tachowelle And here is the part catalogue page: https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/lt+lt+4x4/lt/1992-109/9/957-127000/#6 Looks like the part numbers are: Direct from gearbox to speedometer From 83 with flat engine, LHD
And for the option of connecting through the "compensating gear" as it is now:

I do not know how the tachograph is set up but it is not need, so I would be inclined to fit a standard cable.
VW Classic Parts do not list it but you may be able to get a used one from the continent. In the UK there are a few companies which deal in making cables to a pattern; SpeedyCables for one.
