Hi all,

I have purchased a 1991 lt mk1 and it is awesome!

It does sure a bit sluggish and I often seem to miss enough power and need to go back to a lower gear to get up a small hill at a high engine rev.

Is it normal that the turbo only kicks in at high engine rev? Like at 4000 right before the red part.

Thanks in advance!

Depending upon which engine you have, the characteristics are different.

The engine designation is ahead of and slightly below the injection pump; difficult to see due to the way the engine slopes.

Best thing is to get your hands on an ACL pump and intercooler.  Then increase the boost and turn up the fuel.   I'm running 20PSI, with full fuel to 4500rpm, but it's still laggy :)

So I posted this message too soon and appreciate your replies!!

Having spend a few more days with my awesome LT camper; I have mastered the engine :-)

The problem I was having was that I shifted gears too soon. Living in Switzerland and going uphill a lot this resulted in me not having turbo support in the higher gear I switched to. As such I was driving 40 on some roads where all people behind me wanted to do 80km/h :-)

My camper weighs 3200KG and I'm now actually confident in the power of the engine and don't see myself stuck on too steep hills except for situations where I forget I'm not driving my Defender and end up shifting too soon.
