Hi all, I am a new van owner, never had one before. I bought a T5 140PS 2.0TDI DSG automatic with 40K on clock a couple of months back. Not had a single issue with it at all, but I noticed that it likes to operate at 1500rpm no matter what gear or speed I am doing. I could be going 90mph and it still at 1500rpm. Accelerating it goes from 1500 to about 1900 then drops back down to 1500. Only time I saw it go to 2000 is when I was going up a hill with a load. Is this normal? It's a bit low isn't it? Also, won't this lead to DPF problems because I keep hearing you have to thrash it at high revs to clear the filter. Cheers!!

Check for fault codes, I'd be surprised if there aren't any.
Not sure what you mean about accelerating etc, does the vehicle continue accelerating but the rev guage stays the same, or does it run out of steam and won't rev over 1900rpm etc.

I mean that in normal accelerating, say going from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, the rev counter ranges from 1500 to 1900. But the DSG does that itself. I am not sure if it is a problem or that I am unaccustomed to diesel engines, but in my other car a petrol Nissan Juke, normal rev range is around 3000rpm.

Diesel's are different the turbo boosts approximately from around 1500 - 3500rpm.
With the auto box you could try adjusting the kick down if you want more performance.
My audi spends most of it's time around the same revs as yours, so much torque you don't need to change gear unless it's a steep hill.

Sounds like it is normal behaviour.  The DSG 'boxes are programmed to try and keep the revs down to minimise fuel consumption.  If you put the gearbox in manual mode you should be able to rev it to 4,000 rpm without any trouble, and if you floor the accelerator it should kick down to a lower gear and rev more as well.
