Hi Everyone,

I have a 1983 Devon T3 which I have owned for 4 years it was a 2.0ltr aircooled 4 speed which I have converted to a 1.6 td with a five speed box the conversion is complete and i used it all last year for our holidays. But I have had on going problem with my gear linkage my van has a flat floor pan and the five speed linkage came from a van with a raised floor pan I have five gears and I can drive it. But without a weeks tutorial no one else can how does everyone else get round this?

This is interesting.

I always thought that there are 4 speed linkages and 5 speed linkages but there is no difference between diesel and petrol.

I have just put a diesel box in a bus with petrol rods.

I answered my own question this morning.

The diesel rear rod is more swan necked.

Well so I'm led to believe there are...

Petrol 4 SPD

Petrol 5 SPD

Diesel 4 SPD

Diesel 5 SPD

Then I spose there's syncro linkages? Or maybe there an adaption of above?

I've got a diesel 5 speed linkage with the swan neck from an 89 van sitting here if it's of use.

I would say yes but then I'd be guessing.
Gut feeling is that they are different.

yes it matters. irrelevant of petrol or diesel 4 or 5 spd theres also the early or late to factor in too.

click on the brickwerks page and have a look through the drive train section. there little nuggets of info on the parts you look at.

no such thing. early busses are all 4spd. you need linkage to suit gearbox and bus floorpan. so late 5spd linkage for a petrol and a selector cup for a diesel

get a pic up of the centre joining section and the gearbox linkage. you may just want a front section to swap over.
