hi all, been a while since posting on here. Recently got another vehicle this time a crewcab,i was told it now has a 1.9 n/a diesel out of a 90,s golf was a 1.7ky before. havent had a real good chance to check the engine over as yet,but did notice the dipstick is missing, the tube is there which appears to be in the middle of the block but is a short tube not the long curved one which you can access through engine door at the rear. my question is what dipstick should be fitted to this engine ? the mk3 golf dipstick or the ky/jx dipstick and curved tube? please no micky takers saying im the dipstick for not checking it out properly in the first place. also seems to be revving quite a bit at 60mph like it needs another gear ,only has a 4speed box. thanks in advance john.

May be worth checking again to see what's been done?be daft to go to the trouble of fitting a tube but then no dipstick! The 1.9 had the dipstick on rear of the block originally hence the swap. If you have an ex military bus your box will be quite short for lugging stuff at slower speed. Find the code on the box to see what you have.

It should have the had the JX dipstick retro fitted when they did the swap. But it's a hassle if they didn't knock the 1.9 out when the sump was off. But in in principle yes you want to retro for the jx dipstick.
What year? If it's a n/a 1.9 1y on a four speed low ratio box then yes it's reving at 65mpg and at 70 your around 4k which isn't ideal. Taller tires at the back - 225 / 70 / 16 is about the biggest you can squeeze on a normal 2wd drive van - help bring the revs down - as does a 2.1 petrol gearbox. If it's a later tdi then it will be hopelessly under geared and you will really Need to either get your box rebuilt or fit a flipped box from a tdi? |
