Hi
I have a lhd VW 1.6TD with a catalytic converter on the downpipe which is rattling. Can I simply remove the catalytic converter and fit the Brickwerks sleeve type downpipe? Part 1120202300. Or, will I have to fit a new catalytic converter? If I fit the Brickwerks down pipe, will this increase the engine power? As it is now, the 1.6TD is very sluggish on hills - 1st gear. On the flat it's ok and can go 100 - 110 kms. Many thanks |

As your quoting kms depends on where you are? Some not regs abroad are quite strict.especially on emmisions

You don't need the cat.
If you've performance issue the removing the cat won't fix it. A decent 1.6 Jx are easily capable little motors should Be happy to 70mph to 80mph at maximum revs... There's an old post here on sorting a smokey jx. I think checking tappets and timing would be the first place to start. Then turbo and LDA? Does you engine use oil? Every JX I've met has been sadly shagged after 20 years of pushing a 2 tonne van with little maintenance. Edited by ob1 - 28 Mar 17 at 18:35 |

Hi Thanks for replying. I drive it no more than 100 kms (62 mph) except if I have to overtake which isn't that often! If I drive over 62 mph, it uses more oil but around 60 it's ok but still I must keep an eye on the oil and top up. If you think the Brickwerks sleeve downpipe will work, I'll remove the catalytic converter downpipe and order the Brickwerks one. Do you think the Brickwerks down pipe will be ok?? Yep, absolutely fine, it's worth getting a new exhaust>turbo gasket and 4 new copper nuts whilst you're ordering. And a cheeky free sticker so everyone knows you're cool... |
