Hi peeps

just picked up a pretty unmolested 1988 Velle with a seized 1.9 motor and 5 speed box. She has been holed up in a lock up for a number of years and i managed to strike a deal on Saturday and trailerd it home.

Now i fancy giving it an engine upgrade and since i have been blasting around in an Audi A3 1.8 turbo 20v i was wondering who has gone with this route?

I was also planning some internal engine mods so i can turn the boost up and make it a bit of an animal as you do.

Whats needed to attach it to the 5 speed box and will diesel mounts work?

I have my T3 buzz back on and your advise will be greatly appricated

The samba is the place to look really chap, they love them. Most of them seem to be at 15 degrees as per the car but I remember reading one that was bolted up to a diesel bellhousing then the bellhousing was clocked to bring it back up to 15. I suspect the oil sump is the sticking point but I can't remember.

WHS^^^

You can mount them at 50°, but you need an early or passat donor as it will take a T3 sump, it lifts the engine lid a little. You also need custom mounts and cradle, there are some available off the shelf, but all seem to be for 15°

Sump wise for a later car, you can get away with a standard one, but many go for a steel bottomed after market as they don't cracked when you hit them on a speed bump.

I used the Passat box flipped with a ultimate engineering adaptor plate with modified diesel mounts. Then made a new engine mount on to the turbo side to allow front wheel drive turbos to be fitted running a ko3s turbo on a apu engine (150bhp) and now remapped with stainless exhaust is running 229 bhp when dyno tested .
