hello
a mate of mines van i`ve done some work on recently (Rad and glow plugs) when i ran it up to temp the fans kicked in but no air was flowing through the fan cowling there is a spring thing/wax state that opens the fan cowlings could anyone tell me what this is called and the best place to get a replacement ?

Have you checked the cowlings rotate as they seize up,they open the louvers up to allow air to flow

yes i checked that the cowlings rotate
i manually turned them fully open then let is spring back . the springy opening thing is whats at fault , they stayed open a bit as the van was hot told him to keep an eye on it for now will it be a vw only part ? |

I would think so,or scrapyard,or facebook t4 parts wanted,or t4 forum,I think it picks up heat from the radiator to make it open is your radiator getting hot enough to make it open,just a thought
