Thinking about installing one of the folding multivan buddy seats into my westie. There's plenty of posts on samba showing people having done it, but not clear how to do the floor mounting properly. Anyone put one of these in a Westie ?

They just rest in two holes/lugs in the floor ,like large washers.. welding 4 to the floor would be straight forward ..

Hi,
Actually, to do the job properly and safely, it is not as easy as holes in the floor/wood..the original Multivan buddy seat has fixings welded to the floor by VW, which resemble small upright tubes, fixed to a flat plate, in turn welded to the van floor...the flooring/carpet around these litte "tubes" is cut to accommodate the legs of the buddy seat. The bottom of the buddy seat leg has a round rod (for want of a better description), which fits into the welded floor fixings to ensure complete stability. The seat itself has a bracket at the rear which clicks securely into place on the horizontal fixing bar, which is bolted through the wheelarch/battery box under the front seat. There are plenty of buddy seats that have been fitted to Westy campers by merey drilling 2 suitable holes in the wooden floor to accommodate the rods at the bottom of the seat leg. However, strictly speaking, this is not reeeeeallly enough, as it is, after all, just a piece of not very thick wood that is holding the seat in place, especially in the event of an accident, etc. So, to do the installation properly, either procure a pair of original multivan floor fixings, or fabricate something similar to make sure your seat is safely and securely installed. If you just want to sit in it to eat your lunch then yeah, a couple of holes in your floor will do, however if you want to be able to travel in it then everything vanagon^^ said
