Hi all,

Not getting inundated with my ad on gumtree so thought I'd try on here. I'm looking for an experienced VW technicician in the London area to join my growing VW camper hire and maintenance business...

Also need some sales and clerical help, and delivery drivers...

If interested or you know anyone looking for work, please see the below. Cheers.

Rob

We are a VW camper van rental business and this is our fifth summer. We've grown fast and are now operating a dozen plus vans in peak season and need more help on hand to get us through it smoothly!!

It’s a small business with just a couple of employees, so you’ll be expected to muck in and do whatever the day requires. In return for which, duties will be refreshingly varied with no two days the same!!

On hire days there is always meeting customers and showing them round vans, delivering and collecting vans, cleaning and handing them over to customers and checking them back in. The rest of the time for the sales manager it’s about running the business smoothly and driving hire sales (excuse pun); whilst the mechanics are responsible for ensuring the fleet is in tip top shape, as well as doing other paid repair work when there is spare capacity.

Mechanic position:

We already employ 1 full time mechanic but we need a second to ensure we can get through the increasing workload. You need garage mechanical experience – preferably working on VW camper vans from the 1970’s and 1980’s. Particularly strong candidates would be familiar with engine and electrical repairs, bodywork repair and spray painting. We both maintain and upgrade VW campers so the vehicles are old and in mechanical terms hark back to bygone era – but they are also pieces of history and very satisfying to nurse back to health: none of that modern characterless jellymould rubbish – and no laptops to diagnose issues either!

Salary negotiable and hours will be driven by workload, but we expect the position to be full time at least over the summer. Pay £10 per hour – more for an exceptional candidate.

Sales and general manager:

Apart from on hire days this post can be done flexibly by anyone who has a phone and internet. Hours can be flexible too, so this could suit someone looking to return to part time work – a young mum or semi retired person or student for example. You’ll be expected to possess excellent customer service and written and verbal communication skills, as well as to be internet savvy. An exceptional candidate will be able to conduct internet and social media based marketing campaigns, perform search engine optimisation and to have a proven track record in sales.

Pay will be a few hours (perhaps 5-10) a week basic at £8 per hour, supplemented by a generous commission based on camper hire sales.

You’ll be answering emails and calls, keeping the website updated, doing online marketing, as well as keeping business records and accounts up to date. And when it’s busy, you might be asked to help clean van, getting them backward and forwards to the garage and help with all the other issues that crop up from time to time.

Delivery drivers

£8 per hour and this job will be mainly Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays, often involving early starts and later finishes. You will be delivering vans to, and collecting them again from, our customers across London, showing them round the vans when you get there and completing the key documents with them.

You must hold a clean licence and due to the requirements of our insurance you must be over 25. Sorry but applications from applicants under this age will simply be rejected so don’t waste your time.

For all positions, you must be reliable and honest, polite and presentable because the job involves plenty of customer service (don't worry most of our customers are really nice), as well as resourceful and able to work with minimal direction. Practicality is essential, you should also be customer orientated, organised and with an eye for detail to ensure our vans always go out in top order.

To apply:

Please send a CV with a short (no more than one side) covering letter explaining why you are interested in the post and why we should hire you for it. Your application must clearly state which position you are applying for and show evidence that you have read the advert.

Applications close midnight on 15 May, after which we will sift and contact suitable candidates for interview. Apologies but we may not be able to get back to all applicants if you are unsuccessful.
