I have managed to pickup some et31 16" merc wheels for my syncro, whats a good tyre size for these rims without having to modify anything, the van is as it left the factory

i'm after an all round tyre as its used on the road but want a tyre that will work on the rough stuff

i laugh at my own jokes cause there funny to me! i dont give a fck if you dont think they are

if your in the redline lol ya having a good time! lol ;P

cheers max much appreaciated, had a good squizz at your single cab build thread, cracking bit of work!!!!

I found some tyres locally through gumtree, not bfg at's, they are COPY's, brand new & the guy is after £10r a tyre so I'm tempted....I'm not 100% where he may have "obviously" borrowed them from, they are still WRAPPED & he lives next to tyre fitters hmmmm????

currently my bus is riding on 15" merc rims with beefy tyres which are in great condition but I have 16" rims on my 2wd camper, I find it easier to get 16" tyres locally basicly & I like the 16" look I must admit but its the extra lift in ground clearance I'm after

heard some folk running 205 80 16's & 215 85 16's without issues

but...does tyre brand/style make a differance
i laugh at my own jokes cause there funny to me! i dont give a fck if you dont think they are

Brand shouldnt make a difference, style may tho i doubt it will be much if at all (educated guess not gospel troof). im surprised that 215 85s dont have an issue, must be right on the limit. Mines a 14 and rolls on 16s, I have the stock tyre for the 16 wheel, at 205 80 16, and have no problems clearance wise. Prob around 10mm clear between rear swing arm and 'corner' of tread.

Working on the rough stuff is relative, how rough and how often? I wanted the BFs on mine for a while, eventually accepted some lesser ATs, Avon Rangers, cos I get about as off road as camping in a field. Not as aggressive as the BFs, but still classed as ATs, and half the price, good wear rate, quietish, and decent all round tyres.

good point monkey majic, my local tyre place has some nice 205 80 16's

my only issue with these is would the 205 be a bit stretched on my 7" wide rims & make the tyres a bit stiff

the stock vw OE 16" rims are 5.5 inch wide aren't they?
i laugh at my own jokes cause there funny to me! i dont give a fck if you dont think they are

205/80/16 fit my 7" wide rims fine. I rang continental to check, they will fit 5.5-7" rims.
And yes, standard 16" steels are 5.5"
