How do,

I'm trying to find a T4 for a friend. I've been solely looking at 2.5tdis and ignoring all other engines. However I've seen a couple of very nice vans (not in person) that look great but are 1.9tds -

She needs van to be her car, and she needs it for work, she wants a van to convert over time (as money allows) to a camper.

So basically I'm asking... are 1.9 td T4 engines any good? or should we just stick to finding a 2.5?

Her max budget is 5K - she needs something decent that will last

Cheers

Ben

They are o.k. - And that's about it. Given the choice all over again I would go for the 2.5tdi.

With a 5K budget and the market as it is at the mo, you should be able to pick up quite a decent 2.5tdi.

Pros to the 1.9 are that they are in theory cheaper to fix if and when they go wrong and have no electronic gubbins to confuse things.

Cheap to tune up within reason.

Cons are that they have a few notorious faults that can damage the engine (re-used crank bolts and worn keyways - both busted engine jobs )

Power can suck monkey balls.

Depends on what driving she would do.

I'd stick with plan A for the 2.5...unless it's a really really good van.

That the green one ? Think I have seen it somewhere.

Must admit with that mileage and if it's backed up with SC, could well be worth a peek.

Also looking at 1.9TD, are they really that slow?
Coming from a 1.6D T3 was hoping it would be a bit faster than that............

Turn the fuel and boost up
And they ain't far off a 2.5tdi 88 hp
They just rev a bit high on the motorway , although saying that you can change the 5th gear to make them a little less so.
