Of the 1.9 and 2.4 engines, which is likely to be the easiest for home maintenance?

I've disregarded the 2.5 tdi based on price and complexity.

Also, of the 2 engines, is there one that is more likely to need home maintenance?

2.4 seems to suffer from lack of maintance more than the 1.9, the 1.9 td seems to be as quick as the 2.4, avoid the 1.9 non turbo as its gutless. drove my mates 1.9 lwb the other day and it was dangerously slow.

Clearing out.

My 1.9 D none turbo SWB is not the fastest thing on the planet but its good on fuel and is happy on the Mway at 80mph.

Gonna look at the choice of engine upgrades at the end of the season.

Recently bought the 2.5tdi and it goes like sh*t of a stick, well worth the extra cost. Fuel consumption is good depending on how fast you put your foot down.

I just can't afford the 2.5tdi - really am looking for a bargain basement van.

Anyone know how much a gearbox for a 2.4d is? There's one on e-bay with dodgy 3rd and 4th gear, but if it's cheaP I'll acdept a bit of work to put it right.

Gearboxes for the 2.4 are rare and seldom cheap. i've jst bought my van off ebay with the same fault. the lpg converted 2.0 are normally vey good, assuming conversion done by a reputable company, ideal van as an everyday runner if you dont do a lot of towing, it does lack the low down grunt of the diesels. on the plus side the 2.0 sounds lovely thought a decent exhaust where as diesels jst make more noise.

The 2.4 needs more attention than the 1.9. The 1.9 is easier to work on.

And then, correct me if I'm wrong, with the 2.5 TDi there's a 102 and an 88bhp option.

And which shade of blue on the TDi badge refers to which power output?

And is one output any more problematic than the other. Which gives best economy? The 88bhp?

1.9 cheaper to run but look after a 2.4 and it will last for ever plus there smoother, quieter more economical and will cruise all day at 80mph ,ive been running T4s for 12 years know had two 2.4s from new and clocked up over 300,000 miles in themand another 180,000 in 2.5 tdi ,they just never went wrong ever, wish i could say the same for my T5

if you do buy a 5cyl T4 get the belt ,water pump and both tensioners changed straight away by someone you trust
