is the 1y supposed to have a lift pump?

it idles lovely if i increase fuel supply pressure. not done a 1y before so aprieciate abit of help.

Welcome to my world.
This always happens when people bring engines for conversions, if they don't plug the fuel lines or they drain the injection pump then moisture from the atmosphere gets in.
The first thing it gets to is the lift pump.
I've had countless pumps do this, and the ones customers buy from e-bay to replace iffy ones with.
You can mess about for hours trying to swap in a pump that works, or just get yours repaired. I bet the vanes are stuck.

From the injection pumps I have been inside, the tolerances are so tight that once any moisture or corrosion gets in, there is little chance of sorting it without stripping and cleaning the mess out. Any rusting of the internals pretty much means the pump is junk.
There are a lot of tiny components inside a pump that all need to interact for it to operate correctly.
Plus any small debris getting to the injectors brings it's own set of problems too.

true but the lift pump itself is a crude vane pump like in a air tool is it not? and if it is just sticky old fuel causing the vanes to stick in then there wont be any debris as such?

i know nothing by the way! just wondering out loud

Same sort off vane pump as air tools but much tighter tolerances sticky fuel can be sorted with solvents or something like plus gas but if you get any sort of corrosion it is a case of striping the pump down and cleaning with wire wool , and that`s if you can get the vane`s out of the block in the first places and as a general rule if you can feel any surface damage on the corroded part it`s game over

I always store any pumps I want to keep ,filled with engine oil
