If you had it serviced and they didn't notice/report that the fans were coming on immediately and every time the ignition was switched on that is quite unusual for a VW dealer.  I'm no fan of trial by forum though, you might do better taking it up with them rather than never going back, especially if you want it fixed within a week.  If they serviced the van and genuinely missed something they might well help you out.  It's worth asking anyway.  Let us know how it goes..  Enjoy Spain.  Smile

Spoke to the VW garage. Carnt fit me in til next tuesday the day we leave for the ferry down portmouth for spain.
So will have to try an sort it with the lad at the local VW/audi specialist this friday. Fingers crossed.
Had her from new, 11 years old and 31000 on the clock. Never had any problems with my vans, never.
Think its time for a new one when i get back from spain.
Thanks for your help fellas. Just a quick question before i disappear, do you think she'll be good to drive a couple of thousand mile, averaging about 150 mile a day. As the temp reading are all good on the van and have no warning lights on the dash. She drives as good as she always has just this fan coming on. Sounds like a hovers under the bonnet.
cheers

Quick update. got at the sensor behind bumper this morning. unplugged sensor and turned ignition on. fan still kicked in, so put a little wd40 in and reconnected. still fan kicking in.
So next to check fuses. just spoke to advanced auto electrical guy and says its more than likely faulty wiring so taking it to him Friday morning.Confused

Probably best for speed.  Just for info- the sensor being unplugged is another reason for the fans to come on!

Update. Thanks for you help guy's. Had a mobile auto guy come to my home tonite.
Fixed the problem with the fan.
After investigating for about half hour and a blown fuse. He found the ambient temp sensor which was in the drain well behind the wipers was corroded and blown. Water had collected due to the drain being blocked from leafs over the last few years and blown the sensor.
All fixed. Adam from AC autotech on the Wirral. Cannot praise the guy enough. Best £60 i have spent in a while. Can take my van to Spain next week with a smile.Big smile

Thanks for getting back.  Glad you got it fixed. :-)  That must have been the air quality sensor (G238).  As far as I know only vans with A/C will even have it.  One up to Adam!  (And diagnostics) ;-)

Quick heads up. Done over 2000mile over the last month on my holidays too and in Spain. Problem with fan sorted. Aircon worked a treat over in the heat.
Found that i needed two front tyres when i was away, didnt want to take the risk of them blowing or getting pulled by the police on my why home so found a garage near to were we were staying on the costa blanca in Javea.
Great little garage. £107 each fitted for Continental. And done the tracking rodes for 20 euro. She drives as new.
Spains a lovely country to drive through and the roads are fantastic if anyones thinking of a road trip this summer Thumbs Up.

Good to hear a nice positive story. Smile  That's not a bad price on decent tyres.  I always expect to pay a fortune outside the UK.  I remember France being particularly expensive for 'pneus'.  I read the French even used to come over on the ferry just to visit QuikFit in Dover!
