can anyone tell me what the strange porcelain resistor looking component about 70mm long is & does, situated just in front of the nearside front  wheel fastened to the chassis.mines broken in half with wires still attached. i drove over a cone a year or so ago which may have done it.

I think it is a resistor for the headlights but not sure what it does maybe it dims the lights when your engine is not running but the headlights are still on full?
